Beef with black bean sauce- a quick and easy Chinese recipe
Stir-fry beef with black bean sauce is my favorite food ordered in Chinese restaurants.
Since my favorite restaurant is no longer serving this dish recently, I decided to dig deeper into how to prepare it at home.
I am delighted it is pretty easy to prepare if I use a store-bought black bean sauce. What’s more, it is such a delicious but quick and easy recipe that I can make it within 30 minutes.

Recipe:

Ingredient A
350g beef
2 tsp soy sauce
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cornstarch
Ingredients B
2 tsp minced ginger
1 tbsp minced garlic
3 tbsp vegetable oil
1/2 green bell pepper
1/2 red bell pepper
1 medium-sized onion
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tbsp rice wine
1 tsp of cornstarch (plus 1 tbsp of water to make a slurry)
Ingredients C
1.5 tbsp black bean sauce
1 tbsp light soy sauce
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
3 tbsp water
Method:
Preparation
- Cut the beef across the grain into thin slices.
- Marinate the beef with Ingredient A for 15 minutes.
- Cut the spring onion into short sections, about 1 inch in length.
- Cut the green bell pepper into one-inch pieces.
- Slice one medium size onion into wedges.
- Mix Ingredients C (except the black bean) to become the stir-fry sauce.
Cooking
- Heat the vegetable oil to medium-high heat, then add the marinated beef and spread it out into a single layer.
- Let the beef sear for half a minute, then flip over to sear the other side until slightly brown.
- Continue to stir-fry the beef until about 80% cooked. Then remove the beef from the wok with a strainer, and leave excess oil in the wok.
- Saute the chopped garlic and ginger with the remaining oil in the wok.
- Add the black bean sauce and the stir-fry sauce to the wok, then put all the vegetables into the wok. Turn up the heat to stir-fry the vegetable until crisp-tender. You can add a splash of water if it is too dry.
- Return the beef to the wok.
- Add the cornstarch slurry to thicken the gravy.
- Add the spring onion, a teaspoon of sesame oil, and a tablespoon of Shaoxing wine. Dish out.

How to Make Beef in Black Bean Sauce
Easy beef in black bean sauce recipe, made with tender beef slices, bell peppers, and delicious black bean sauce. One of the most popular Chinese stir-fry beef recipes that come together in no time!
Full Ingredients and Instruction ▶

▢300 g Beef steak ( cut into thin slices )
▢½ Green pepper bell pepper/capsicum ( cut in small squares )
▢½ Red pepper bell pepper/capsicum ( cut in small squares )
▢1 Onion cut in small cubes
▢1½ tbsp Garlic finely chopped
▢1 tsp Ginger paste or finley grated
▢1 tbsp Black bean fermented black beans or black bean sauce ( details in note )
▢2 tbsp Oil vegetable, sunflower, canola, or neutral flavour oil
Marinade
▢1 tbsp Sugar
▢1 tsp Corn starch
▢½ tsp Baking soda
▢1 tbsp Light soy sauce or regular soy sauce
▢1 tbsp Shao Xing wine optional
Stir Fry Sauce
▢3 tbsp Oyster sauce
▢1 tsp Dark soy sauce
▢3 tbsp Water
▢½ tsp Corn starch
▢2 tsp Shao Xing Wine
▢2 tsp Sugar

Cut the beef steak into thin slices against the grain. Marinate the beef and make a stir fry sauce.
Stir fry the beef for 1 minute and follow with the bell peppers. Remove from pan and set it aside.
Saute the chopped garlic with medium heat for 1 minute, then follow with the ginger and stir for few seconds. Add the black beans stir fry for 1-2 minutes. Then pour the sauce mixture, stir until the sauce start to get thick.
Add the fried beef, onions and peppers in. Toss well to combine everything evenly for 1-2 minutes. Serve while hot with plain rice, egg fried rice or noodles.

Ingredients
Fresh wheat noodles or dried wheat/udon noodles
1/4 cup cooking oil
5 cloves of garlic, chopped (approximately 1 1/2 tbsp)
1 tbsp chopped ginger
4 to 5 green onions, chopped (approximately 1/4 cup)
1 large sweet or yellow onion, cut into large chunks
1/4 of large or 1/2 of small green cabbage, cut into chunks
1 large zucchini, cut into small cubes
5 to 6 rehydrated or fresh shiitake, diced
2 tsp soy sauce
1/3 cup chunjang, black bean paste (you can substitute with Doenjang or red miso)
2 tbsp vegetarian oyster sauce
1 tbsp raw sugar
Julienned cucumber
Gochugaru to taste

Asian Chicken and Green Beans with Black Bean Sauce Recipe
INGREDIENTS:
2 cups green beans - cleaned and ends cut
1/4 cup diced onions
4 mini carrots sliced
1 tbsp. minced garlic
2 tsp. minced ginger
1 tbsp. black bean sauce
1/4 cup water or broth
1 tbsp. ShaoXing cooking wine
1 tsp. dark mushroom flavor soy sauce
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. chili sambal - optional
cornstarch slurry - 2 tsp. cornstarch and 1 tbsp. water
*Blanch green beans and carrots for 30-60 seconds depending on size
of green beans.
Place in cold water bath to stop cooking. Drain.
Chicken marinade:
1 cup sliced chicken
pinch of salt
1 tsp. ShaoXing cooking wine
1/2 tsp. Sesame oil
1 tsp. cornstarch
*Mix above ingredients in a bowl and let rest for 10 minutes
*In a wok on high heat, add oil and chicken and spread out.
Do not stir for 15-20 seconds. Then cook and stir for 2-3 minutes
or until done. Remove from pan.
In a wok or pan on medium high heat add oil, minced garlic and ginger.
Cook and stir for 15 seconds and add diced onions and black bean sauce.
Cook and stir for a minute and add blanched green beans and carrots.
Stir to combine.
Add water, Shaoxing cooking wine, sugar and chili sambal.
Stir to combine.
Add dark soy sauce and chicken/juices back into the pan.
Cook and stir to combine.
Add a couple spoonfulls of the cornstarch slurry.
Cook and stir for about 30 seconds and serve.
Enjoy.

Stir Fry Pork Belly with Black Bean Sauce
This dish is very tasty and easy to make. Something new to you could be fermented black beans which you can easily find it in Asian groceries. Give a it try. Just watch out for the chill the one I made in this video is pretty spicy for me. :)
***INGREDIENTS***
400g / 0.8 lb pork belly
1 tablespoon of fermented black beans = salted black beans
Chilli (depends on you)
2 cloves of garlic minced
1 slice of ginger minced
Sauce:
1 tablespoon of soy sauce - amazon
1 tablespoon of oyster sauce amazon
1 tablespoon of Chinese cooking wine - amazon
1/4 teaspoon of white pepper powder
1/4 cup of water
1 teaspoon of cornstarch - amazon
***HOW TO MAKE***
[PREPARE THE PORK BELLY]
- Blanch the pork belly by boiling in water for 5 mins. Then cool down in cold water
- cut the pork belly into thin slices
[PREPARE THE FERMENTED BLACK BEANS]
- Soak the black beans in water for 10 mins to remove dirts
- Cut the black beans into small pieces
[COOK THE PORK BELLY]
Heat up the wok. Heat up a bit of oil (not too much).
Add the pork belly. Pan fry until each side got golden brown
Then set aside
[ STIR FRY]
Heat up the wok. Heat up 2 tablespoons of oil
Turn to medium heat. Add the aromatics (garlic, ginger, fermented black beans, chilli)
Add the pork belly, turn to high heat. Stir fry for 2 minutes
Then add half of the sauce. Mix well
Add the rest of the sauce. Mix well
Then it is done and transfer to the serving plate
Serve with a bowl of rice.
