Start To Finish “PF Tek” For Growing Mushrooms At Home (Part 1)
Part 2 here:
It is not the best way to grow mushrooms, but it is a fun science project for growing mushrooms at home, and you can do it without any special equipment that you can't get at the grocery store or hardware store.
SUBSTRATE:
For Every 6 cakes use about:
-3.5 cups vermiculite
-1 cup brown rice flour
-350 ml water
NOTE: I know in the video I said ½ a cup vermiculite for 1 jar and then proceeded to say 3.5 cups for 6 jars, which doesn’t really make sense, but it doesn’t matter all that much, the more important thing is that the ratio is close and the substrate is properly hydrated. If you use the recipe above for 6 cakes it works perfectly.
MATERIAL REQUIRED (part 1, substrate and inoculation):
-Coarse Vermiculite (look in garden centers or here )
-Brown Rice Flour (I used Bob’s Red Mill
-250 ML wide mouth canning jars (make sure they are wide mouth or else you won’t be able to get your cakes out
-tinfoil for covering the lids
-large clear tote for SAB (112 qt should be good
-isopropyl alcohol (if you can find it right now!)
-spray bottle for isopropyl alcohol
-paper towel
-lighter or alcohol lamp
-liquid culture syringe (i used mycelium emporium)
MATERIAL REQUIRED (part 2, fruiting):
-another large tote for making the fruiting chamber
-coarse perlite
-another spray bottle for water
-repti-fogger (optional)

Basic heart latte art ????
We should never neglect the importance of basics, pouring a decently nice heart requires all the basic skills done right such as:
- Pouring a nice and undisturbed base for that max contrast against art later
- Correct landing position to get a center and asymmetrical pour
- Flow control to maintain a steady and strong milk stream
- Tilting/correcting cup at the right speed to match the speed of pour
- Slowly ift up without pulling backward then gently cut forward to complete the pour
.
Only with all these basic done right will allow us to progress to more advance art pouring with greater confidence and consistency

Does This Fruit Really Taste Like Chocolate Pudding? Black Sapote Tasting & Growing
Today we'll be exploring black sapote to find out if this fruit really tastes like chocolate pudding. I'll also talk a bit about growing them, and show you my black sapote trees that I grew from seed, including showing you the things that went well and not so well with the growing in my experience.
Black sapote (Diospyros nigra), also called chocolate pudding fruit, are in the persimmon family, and are native to Mexico, Central America and Columbia. Seedlings are frost tender, but when mature and established, the trees can survive light frosts and temperatures down to around -2.2C (28F).
These fruit trees are quite beautiful and the unusual fruit is like nothing I've tried before. Definitely a great rare fruit tree to incorporate into a subtropical garden.
If these are too tropical to grow in your area, I also show my persimmon tree, (related to black sapote), which might be a more suitable option for you to grow in your area. My tree is a 'Fuyu' Persimmon and can be grown down to USDA cold hardiness Zone 7.
