Cinnamon Rolls made from Potatoes | Martha Stewart Recipe |
I always love recipes that have a little secret hidden ingredient that really levels up the dish. Its 2020 and its time to update the recipe. Have you ever considered adding a potato to this sweet dessert? It sounds weird but believe me, you will see a huge difference in the texture of your cinnamon rolls. Adding a potato to any bread type dough will make the outcome much more fluffier and chewier. These pillowy rolls will have everyone raving at your next Christmas party. This recipe is from the Martha Stewart website and we all know that Martha knows best. So if it has her stamp of approval then I am sold. I had to try it out myself and yes I can honestly say these are absolutely the best Cinnamon Rolls.

Watch with us as we make the most delicious cinnamon rolls you will ever eat! We absolutely love them and know that you will, too! (Make sure to keep an eye out for the cute Corgi)
Check out this video where I add a little twist:
Aunt Rosie's Cinnamon Rolls Recipe:
1 cup warm water
2 Tbsp. yeast (just regular yeast 'non-rising')
1 cup butter flavor shortening
2 cups scalded milk
2 tsp. salt
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups mashed potatoes
4 beaten eggs
7-9 cups of all purpose flour (more for kneading and rolling out)
For the insides:
1 cube of butter (melted)
Liberal amounts of light brown sugar and cinnamon
For the frosting:
3 Tablespoons of milk
3 Tablespoons of melted butter
1 tsp vanilla
Combine melted butter, vanilla and milk together in a mixing bowl, then slowly mix (beat) in powdered sugar to the desired consistency you like to spread on warm rolls!
Dissolve yeast in one cup warm water. Add shortening to scalded milk, stir until melted. Add salt, sugar, and potatoes. When cooled add yeast. Mix thoroughly and add eggs. Add enough flour to make the dough stiff. Knead well. Form into a ball and rub top with butter. Place in large bowl and cover. Let rise until double. Roll dough out in large rectangle. Brush melted butter over dough. Sprinkle cinnamon and brown sugar over buttered dough. Roll dough, sealing butter, brown sugar and cinnamon inside. Cut in one inch pieces using thread. Lay on greased cookie sheet, raise until doubled, bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. Frost with your favorite frosting. Or use mine from above.
