How To Make The 1931 'KC' German Coffee Cake Recipe. Welcome Friends. Welcome to Sunday morning and the old cook book show.
Today we're going to do a recipe out of the 'Cooks Book. this was published in 1931 by the KC Baking Powder company out of Chicago and this is an amazing booklet. The printing is incredible it's very well crafted the the pictures are fantastic, the colour... for something that would have been a giveaway in 1931 in order to promote their business and promote their product, this is incredibly well done.
Ingredients For Cake:
560 mL (2¼ cups) flour
10 mL (2 tsp) baking powder
5 mL (1 tsp) tsp salt
30 mL (2 Tbsp) sugar
30 mL (2 Tbsp) melted butter
1 egg
Milk
Ingredients For Topping
15 mL (1 Tbsp) melted butter

Angelo's Mom Makes Raisin Bread Coffee Cake
Follow along with the video. This is pretty easy to bake.
Ingredients
-4 cups flour
-3 whipped eggs
-5 teaspoons baking powder,
-1 1/2 cups of sugar (you can cut down a little)
-2 cups yellow raisins
-1 1/2 cups milk
-3 sticks of butter for cooking, 1 stick of butter for wiping on the cooking pan
-Cinnamon
-Ground cloves
-Powdered sugar
-Electric egg beater
Leave the 3 sticks of butter out overnight to soften them. Have all the ingredients out in bowls and a big bowl for when you mix them all together.
Dump the baking powder into the flour. Add one teaspoon of cinnamon. Add a half teaspoon of ground cloves. Dump in raisins and mix everything thoroughly with a spoon.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Use the electric egg beater to whip the 3 sticks of butter in a large plastic bowl. Add in some sugar while using the egg beater. Continue whipping the butter, add a little more sugar, add the eggs, continue whipping, and add the rest of the sugar and whip it thoroughly (I'm not sure why you can't put it all in together, but that's how my mom does it).
Add some of the baking powder/flour/raisin mix and milk into the butter and stir it thoroughly with a spoon. Add some more, keep stirring, and continue this process until it's all in and you've stirred it thoroughly, including at the bottom of the bowl. My mom ended up adding a little more milk.
Use the 4th stick of butter to wipe down the baking pan and pour in the fully mixed batter of butter, flour, raising, etc. Shake the pan until everything is level and put it in the oven for about one hour. To check when it's done, put a knife in it and pull it out. If batter sticks to the knife, keep baking it.
Once it's done, let it cool off for 30 minutes and sprinkle powdered sugar on it. Don't do it when it's too hot or the cake will absorb the sugar.
I would think this would taste good with some blended bananas instead of poisonous sugar, but my mom wants to punish everyone with crazy ingredients. My mom also doesn't want me to tell her what to do. The batter is delicious.
It's so easy, even men can do it!

2 Eggs
1 Tbsp (7 g) Pumpkin Pie Spice
2 tsp (10 g) Baking Powder
1 tsp (2 g) Vanilla Extract
½ tsp (3 g) Salt
½ tsp (1 g) Orange Zest
For the topping:
*½ cup (50 g) Chopped Walnuts
¼ cup (50 g) Granulated Sugar
¼ cup (50 g) Brown Sugar
2 Tbsp (30 g) Cold Unsalted Butter [cut into small pieces]
¼ tsp (0.5 g) Ground Cinnamon
* can be substituted with pecans
Process:
1) Preheat your oven to 350 degrees (180 degrees in Celsius), line the bottom of a 9x13” (23 by 33 cm) baking pan with parchment paper and spray with nonstick cooking spray.
2) In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar for 1 minute, add the eggs, vanilla extract, orange zest and both kinds of milk and mix everything until it’s a nice smooth batter.
3) In a small bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, pumpkin pie spice and salt, and set aside. In another small bowl, mix both kinds of raisins with a couple of tablespoons of the dry ingredients and toss well until all the raisins are covered in the flour mixture, set aside.
4) Add the dry ingredients and mix very quickly or until all the dry ingredients are well incorporated but not over mixed.
5) Using a spatula, fold in the raisins mixture. Pour the batter into the prepared pan making sure to even out the top, set aside for a few minutes.
6) In a small bowl, mix together all the ingredients for the topping and mix it with your fingers until its all a nice crumbly texture. Sprinkle it evenly over the cake and bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let it cool for 20 minutes before serving.
