2 tb Butter
1 sm Rome apple; chopped
1/4 c Shredded cheddar cheese
1 lg Egg white

Recipe by: Best Recipes, Muffins & Quick Breads Preheat oven to 400 degrees; grease an 8-inch round cake pan. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, wheat germ, sugar, baking powder and salt. With 2 knives or a pastry blender, cut in the butter until the size of coarse crumbs. Toss the chopped apple and cheese in the flour mixture. Beat together the egg white and milk until well combined. Add to the flour mixture, mixing with a fork until a dough forms. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead 6 times. Spread the dough evenly in the cake pan and score deeply with a knife into 6 wedges. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the top springs back when gently pressed. Let stand for 5 minutes; remove from the pan. Cool before serving. Penny Halsey (ATBN65B). -----

Apple, cheese, and rosemary scones – made with spelt flour
Thanks for stopping by my kitchen! These savoury scones are packed with flavour. The flavour of the cheese is enhanced by the mustard while the rosemary adds an aromatic, fresh flavour to the scone. The spelt flour also adds flavour and texture. Perfect served with a slice of cheese or apple, or cheese and apple! And of course perfect spread with butter.
~~ Ingredients ~~
• 300g/11oz spelt flour
• 2 teaspoons baking powder
• 1 teaspoon mustard (I used English mustard but any mustard will be fine)
• Salt and pepper
• 50g/2oz cold butter
• 1 apple
• 2 sprigs rosemary (1 sprig is roughly 4 inches)
• 125g/4½oz mature cheddar cheese
• 1 egg
• About 150ml/¼pint buttermilk (approximately)
