Apple Wontons - Dalya Rubin - It's Raining Flour Episode 15
This is an awesome recipe! I came up with it a few weeks ago while experimenting with random ingredients I had in my house. I hope you enjoyed the video!
Here’s the recipe:
Apple (Fried) Wontons:
Makes about 12-16 wontons
1 apple (chopped into tiny pieces, I used Granny Smith)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
(**1/2 cup apple pie filling if you don't want to make the apple mixture**)
1 teaspoon sugar
12-16 wonton wrappers
3/4 cup sugar
2 Tablespoons cinnamon
3/4 to 1 cup of oil
Heat up oil in a pan.
Mix the chopped apple with the sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. ***Or just use apple pie filling instead***
Place a wonton wrapper onto your work surface and fill with about 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons of the apple mixture or apple pie filling.
Brush the edges of the wonton wrapper with water, then fold diagonally to create a triangle.
Press down the sides the of the wonton with a fork on both sides.
Lower the stove temperature a bit.
Then place a few apple-filled wontons in at a time and cook on each side for about 1 to 1/2 minutes.
Place the cooked wontons onto a rapper towel and pat them dry.
Mix the cinnamon and sugar together.
Place each wonton into the cinnamon-sugar mixture to coat.
Store in an airtight container on the counter for up to 2 day or in the fridge for 1 week.
**I have attempted to bake these, but they didn’t turn out as crispy and delicious. But if you want, you can spray each side of the wonton and cook them on each side for a few minutes in the coven. Sorry, I don't have oven temperature or time for this :-(

Apple Wontons seem like an unusual combination at first, but they are a delectable dessert that cleanses your palate and refreshes you after the meal.
APPLE WONTONS
Ingredients
1 medium red Washington Apple
8-12 wonton sheets
¼ cup crushed walnuts
1 tbsp brown sugar
¼ tsp cinnamon powder
2-3 tbsps refined flour (maida) slurry
Oil for deep-frying
Caramel sauce
¾ cup castor sugar
2-3 tbsps butter
3-4 tbsps fresh cream
Method
1. Finely chop Washington Apple and put in a bowl. Add walnuts, brown sugar and cinnamon powder and mix well.
2. To prepare caramel sauce, heat castor sugar in a non-stick pan and cook till it caramelizes.
3. Apply some slurry on the two adjacent sides of each wonton sheet, put some apple-walnut mixture in the center, fold into triangle and press to seal. Apply some slurry on the ends, bring them together and press to seal.
4. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.
5. Switch off the heat of caramel sauce, add butter and mix. Add cream, mix well and slightly cool.
6. Put the apple wontons in hot oil and deep-fry till golden brown and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.
7. Place the fried apple wontons on a serving platter. Drizzle some caramel sauce on top and serve warm.

Cream Cheese Wontons with Quick Sweet and Sour Sauce

✅Ingredients
Cream Cheese Wontons:
• 2 cups vegetable oil, for frying
• 24 wonton wrappers
• 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
• 1 large egg
• 1 tablespoon water
Quick Sweet and Sour Sauce:
• ¾ cup brown sugar
• 2 tablespoons ketchup
• ¼ cup rice wine vinegar
• 2 tablespoons soy sauce
• 2 tablespoons cornstarch
• 1 cup pineapple juice
✅Instructions
Cream Cheese Wontons:
1️⃣ Heat vegetable oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
2️⃣ While oil heats up, whip the cream cheese with a hand mixer until fluffy and smooth.
3️⃣ In a small bowl, whisk together egg and water to make an egg wash. Lightly brush both sides of the wonton wrapper with the egg wash. Put about 1 teaspoon of the cream cheese in the center of each wonton. Fold the wontons by bringing opposite corners together into the center, and repeat with the remaining corners. Pinch shut and be sure to remove any air pockets.
4️⃣ Fry wontons in the hot oil 4 at a time until golden brown. This will only take about a minute. Using a slotted spoon, remove the golden-brown wontons from the oil and transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
Quick Sweet and Sour Sauce:
1️⃣ For the sweet and sour sauce, whisk together brown sugar, ketchup, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, and cornstarch in a small saucepan. Pour in pineapple juice and whisk to combine.
2️⃣ Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Once simmering, sauce will thicken. Remove from heat and serve hot, or allow to cool before serving.
