How To make Savory Green Beans
1 pound green beans
fresh or frozen
2 tablespoons chopped onion
2 to 4 T. water :
(4 fresh, 2 frozen)
1/2 cup fresh mushrooms -- sliced
1 teaspoon cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon basil
1 dash pepper
1 teaspoon lemon juice
In a 1 quart casserole combine beans, onion and water. Cover casserole. Microwave on High for 5 minutes. Stir in mushrooms, cornstarch, basil and dash pepper. Cover and Microwave for 3-5 minutes until beans and mushrooms are tender.

4 cans green beans
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup Soy Sauce
1 stick of butter
1-2 teaspoons garlic powder
3-6 slices of thick cut bacon
DIRECTIONS: Melt together the the butter, brown sugar, garlic powder, and soy sauce in small sauce pan. Pour sauce over drained and rinsed green beans into 9x13 baking dish. Chop bacon into bite sized pieces. Spread bacon over top of green beans and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until bacon reaches desired crispiness.

This is another of my Mom's much loved recipes, and it's secret ingredient is RASAM POWDER, which can be bought at any Indian Grocer or even Superstore/Walmart sometimes. You will love this way of working with fresh green beans, and it makes great additions to a main course, as a side dish, and wonderful to take to a party.
INGREDIENTS
1 small tomato
1 tsp rasam powder ( I used the MTR brand)
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
3/4 tsp whole coriander
1 tbsp roasted channa dhal
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp fresh grated coconut
1/4 onion
5 garlic cloves
