McDonald's fried apple pies recipe...dining in history
A sweet, gooey and flavoursome apple filling covered with the deep fried crisp and flaky pastry coat. Yes, these goodies that were served until the 1992 by McDonald's is a true indulgence. Want to bring your childhood memories to life? then this McDonald's fried apple pie recipe is certainly for you.
SOME NOTES:
1)You can usually buy ready made McDonal's apple pie pastry sheets.
If not available as in my case you could use any other pastry sheet
as long as it is thin.
2)These pies can also be baked. The baked ones too taste crispy and
nice. In that case 450˚F for 15-20 min.
INGREDIENTS:
1)apples 1 1/2 pcs (Granny smith apples or any if not available)
2)brown sugar 2 tbsp
3)nutmeg powder 1/2 tsp
4)cinnamon powder 1/2 tsp
5)butter (salted) 1 tsp
6)pastry sheets
And that's it. Enjoy your pie.

In this video I'm showing you how to make fried apple pies! They're reaally good, easy to make and you could also bake them instead of frying if you like that better!
Recipe makes 12 apple pies.
To make these you will need:
2 small apples
12 squares of vegan puff pastry
3tbsp (55gr) brown sugar
2tsp cinnamon
1/2tsp nutmeg
35gr vegan butter
30gr pecans
30gr walnuts
splash of water
pinch of salt
1/4tbsp cornstarch + 1/4tbsp water
oil for frying
Start by chopping the apples, the walnuts and the pecans into small pieces. Next add all the ingredients except the cornstarch and the oil to a pan and cook this on medium heat for 12 minutes until the apples are soft and caramelized. Stir every minute or so.
Once the 12 minutes are up, the apples should be super soft and golden.
Turn your stove to low heat an add the cornstarch water mixture to this. Stir this in immediately to thicken it a bit. Cook for 1 more minute.
Thaw the puff pastry sheets before using them. The best way to fill the appe pies is:
1. Leave the square pieces of puff pastry on the plasticky paper it comes on
2. slice it just next to the middle ( so that the top part is a bit bigger than the bottom part)
3. fill them.
4. flip the top piece on top of the bottom piece
5. peel of the plasticky paper from the top
6. close the sides with your fingers
7. pies will be easy to move around because they still are on the bit of plasticky paper it comes on
You can watch this in the video, if you don't understand some steps.
Once the pies are all filled, freeze them for 20 minutes to firm uo a bit.
Heat the oil to 180C (356F). I used regular vegetable oil for this.
If you don't own a termometer (I don't!) you can test if the oil is hot enough by adding either a piece of leftover puff pastry in the oil or a wooden spoon and if bubbles start to form around it, that means the oil is hot enough and you can start frying the pies.
Don't forget to remove the piece of plasticky parchement paper before frying the pies!
Fry the pies one by one for 5-6 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Flip them halfway through.
Let them leak out on a piece of kitchen paper towel.
If you prefer baking them instead of frying, add them to an oven tray lined with parchement paper, brush them with vegan milk and bake them in a preheated oven for 20-25 minutes on 200C (392F).
They're best when they're still warm! Enjoy!
You can store them in an airtight container for a couple of days in the fridge but they do lose their crispiness a bit so I suggest eating them fast... which shouldn't be a problem haha
