Carrot Cake
The origins of carrot cake - aka “Rueblitorte” – are not quite clear.
Since it is my favorite version of carrot cake I refer to the 19th-century recipe that comes from the Aargau area of Switzerland.
Common modern carrot cake recipes come with a white cream cheese icing. Often nuts like walnuts or pecans are part of the cake’s recipe, as well as typical cake spices.
French Apple Pie
Apple Pie is a common cake in a lot of countries all over the globe. And in many of those countries there are regional versions in addition.
This one French version is maybe not the most popular one, but I love French desserts in general and so I chose this one.
The Normandy Tart is also a cool variation of the French Apple Pie.
Rhubarb Pie
Love or hate it – that’s a quote you often hear when it comes to Rhubarb Pie. For whimps and posers, they like to mix the rhubarb with strawberries, but that is not the true “metal” version.
Pay attention to the preparing of the rhubarb:
Trim off the ends and rinse well.
Peel the rhubarb if desired.
Cook the prepared rhubarb in a non-aluminum pan
Blueberry Cheese Cake
The origins of the cheesecake can be traced back as far as Ancient Greece, where the first recipes for this cake were written. The recipe for the cake underwent countless changes until it developed into what we know and love it to be today : )
In case you don’t like blueberries, there are countless alternatives for toppings or you just eat it plain ; )
Some even like it New York style with extra heavy cream / sour cream.
Linzer Torte
Who ever invented the Linzer Torte is subject of many legends. It is a traditional Austrian pastry, kind of shortbread dough topped with fruit preserves and sliced nuts with a lattice design on top. The name comes from the Austrian city of Linz.
Linzer torte is made of flour, unsalted butter, egg yolks, lemon zest, cinnamon , and ground nut. Covered with a filling of redcurrant, raspberry, or apricot preserves

The origins of carrot cake are disputed. Published in 1591, there is an English recipe for pudding in a Carret [sic] root that is essentially a stuffed carrot with meat, but it includes many elements common to the modern dessert: shortening, cream, eggs, raisins, sweetener (dates and sugar), spices (clove and mace), scraped carrot, and breadcrumbs (in place of flour). Many food historians believe carrot cake originated from such carrot puddings eaten by Europeans in the Middle Ages, when sugar and sweeteners were expensive and many people used carrots as a substitute for sugar. Variations of the carrot pudding evolved to include baking with a crust (as pumpkin pie), steamed with a sauce, or molded in pans (as plum pudding) with icing.
In volume two of L'art du cuisinier (1814), Antoine Beauvilliers, former chef to Louis XVI, included a recipe for a Gâteau de Carottes, which was popular enough to be copied verbatim in competitors' cookbooks. In 1824, Beauvilliers had published in London an English version of his cookbook which includes a recipe for Carrot Cakes in a literal translation of his earlier recipe.
Swiss Rueblitorte
Another 19th-century recipe comes from the housekeeping school of Kaiseraugst (Canton of Aargau, Switzerland). According to the Culinary Heritage of Switzerland, it is one of the most popular cakes in Switzerland, especially for the birthdays of children.
The popularity of carrot cake was revived in the United Kingdom because of rationing during the Second World War.
