How To make Dutch Apple Crumb Bars
CRUST:
1 1/2 c Flour
1/3 c Sugar
1/4 tsp Salt
1/2 c Cold unsalted butter
1 Egg yolk
2 1/2 tbsp Cold water
FILLING AND TOPPING:
3 c Peeled cored and chopped
Apples 1/2 c Chopped -- pitted dates
1/4 c Flour
1/3 c Rolled oats
1/3 c Packed light brown sugar
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
Pinch of salt 1/4 c Cold unsalted butter
Cut into 4 pieces
Preheat oven to 350 and grease a 9x9 inch pan. Combine flour, sugar, and salt in a food processor. Add butter in pieces and process to make a fine meal. Blend yolk and water. Pour over dry ingredients and process until damp crumbs form. Pat crumbs into bottom and halfway up sides of pan. Bake for 25 minutes. Mix apples, dates, sugar, and lemon juice. Spread evenly over crust. Combine flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt. Add butter and rub it to make damp crumbs. Cover apples with topping and pat gently. Bake 40 minutes until golden brown. This recipe for crumble topping is the perfect crumble for any pie recipe. You can even make it for muffins or coffee cake!

INGREDIENTS
12 tablespoons unsalted butter
2/3 cup sugar (brown or white or a combination)
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
INSTRUCTIONS
Grate cold butter into a large bowl. Alternately, you can dice it small.
Add sugar: use all brown or all white or a combination to make 2/3 cup. Use whatever combination you like (I like using 1/3 cup each brown and white).
Add flour and then, using a pastry cutter, work the butter into the flour and sugar until the mixture forms coarse crumbs.
Use crumble as recipe directs, on a fruit pie or on muffins or coffee cake. Bake as directed in recipe.

►1 disk of pie dough (1/2 of our pie dough recipe).
►2 1/4 lbs granny smith apples (6 medium apples)
►1 tsp cinnamon
►8 Tbsp unsalted butter
►3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
►1/4 cup water
►1 cup granulated sugar

Ingredients:
For the base:
2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
For the filling:
3-4 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
For the topping:
1 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup walnuts
1/2 cup butter, melted
Instructions:
1- Preheat oven to 350° (180°C) and grease a 8 square pan and line with parchment paper
2- In a large bowl mix together flour, sugar, baking powder. Whisk egg and butter and add to the flour mixture.Mix until just combined.
3-Press into prepared pan and baBake until lightly golden, 15- 20 minutes.
4-In a large bowl, toss apples, lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg together. Spread apples over crust.
5- In a medium bowl, combine flour, sugar, walnuts and butter until coarse clumps form.
6-Sprinkle crumb topping over apples and bake until top is golden and apples are soft, about 1 hour.
7-Let cool at least 15 minutes then slice into squares and drizzle with salted caramel sauce before serving.

Shortbread Crust/Base
1/2 cup unsalted butter (113g)
1/4 cup sugar (50g)
1/2 tsp vanilla (2.5ml)
1 1/4 cups flour (147g)
Apple Filling
5 medium apples (600g)
1/4 cup sugar (50g)
1 tsp lemon juice (5ml)
1/2 tsp cinnamon (2.5ml)
Streusel Topping
1/2 cup light brown sugar (100g)
1/4 cup sugar (50g)
3/4 cup flour (94g)
1/2 tsp cinnamon (2.5ml)
6 tbsp unsalted butter (85g)
Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes
Pan size: 8 inch by 8 inch (20cm by 20cm)
