How To make Cheddar Crumble Apple Pie
1 ea 9" Unbaked Pie Shell
TOPPING:
1/2 c Unbleached Flour 1/2 ts Cinnamon; Ground
1/3 c Sugar 5 tb Butter
1/3 c Brown Sugar; Firmly Packed
FILLING:
1 1/2 lb Cooking Apples; * 4 ts Unbleached Flour
1 tb Lemon Juice; Fresh 1/4 ts Nutmeg; Ground
6 oz Cheddar;Md, Shredded,1 1/2 C
* Use a cooking apple such as Granny Smith's. Core, peel and thinly ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Make a high rim around the pie crust. Combine all the dry ingredients in the topping and cut in the butter until crumbly. Set aside. Toss the apples and lemon juice together and add the cheese, flour, and nutmeg, tossing and mixing well. Arrange the apples in the crust and sprinkle on the topping. Bake in a preheated 375 degree F. oven for 40 to 50 minutes. Serve warm with Vanilla Ice Cream if desired. -----

Betty demonstrates how to make one of her favorite comfort food recipes, Cheddar Apple Crisp. It is made with apple pie filling and topped with a lovely and delectable topping of a brown sugar/Cheddar cheese mixture.

Cheddar Apple Crisp
20.5 oz. can of apple pie filling (I used Comstock More Fruit apple pie filling.)
1/2 cup flour
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 stick butter or margarine, softened
3/4 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
Empty apple pie filling into a pie plate or other oven-proof dish. In a small mixing bowl mix 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 stick butter, and 3/4 cup brown sugar with a fork or pastry blender until crumbly. Stir in 3/4 cup shredded Cheddar cheese. Pour this crumbly mixture over the top of the apples in the pie plate. Bake in an oven that has been preheated to 350 degrees about 15 to 20 minutes. Serve while warm. Umm, umm good!!!

- 1/2 cup (106g) granulated white sugar
- 2 teaspoons (4g) ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon (1g) ground allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon (4g) fine sea salt
- juice of 1 lemon
- 1 tbsp (9g) corn starch dissolved in 2 tablespoons (21g) water
Pie Crust:
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (375g), plus extra for rolling
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, very cold, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
- 1.5 teaspoons (10g) fine salt
- 2 teaspoons (10g) sugar
- 6 to 8 tablespoons (108g) ice water
Baked Version:
- Puff pastry or pie dough...
