Butter Nut Balls
This is another recipe from my Nana which is a favorite at Christmas time. These delicate buttery balls almost melt in your mouth. I like to call them snow balls.
1 c. butter 2 c. flour 1/2 c. powdered sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 2 tsp almond extract (or 1&1/2 tsp vanilla) 1-2 c. finely ground walnuts
Process or chop nuts until finely ground. Soften butter with paddle of mixer. Mix flour, sugar and salt. Add to butter. Mix until combined. Blend in nuts. Form into 1&1/2 inch balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Refrigerate for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 325 deg F. Bake 12-15 minutes until starting to brown at the edges. Let cool a few minutes, then roll in powdered sugar. Store in plastic container lined with waxed paper. May be frozen for several weeks. Dust with extra powdered sugar before serving.
