Texas French Toast Bananas Foster
RECIPE COURTESY OF GUY FIERI
Level: Easy
Total: 40 min
Prep: 20 min
Cook: 20 min
Yield: 4 to 6 servings
Ingredients
French Toast Batter:
3 eggs
1/3 cup milk, preferably whole
1/3 cup heavy cream
1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon orange-flavored liqueur (recommended: Grand Marnier)
1/8 teaspoon sea salt
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Caramel Sauce:
1 cup unsalted butter
2 cups packed brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup orange juice
1/4 cup dark rum
1 tablespoon creme de banana liqueur, optional
3 bananas, peeled and sliced
6 thick bread slices, preferably French toast bread (brioche) or Texas toast
Directions
Batter: In a large bowl, combine all of the ingredients until a smooth batter is formed.
Sauce: In a saucepan over medium-high heat, melt the butter, then add the brown sugar. Stir continuously until the sugar has dissolved. Add the cinnamon and orange juice and bring to a simmer. Remove the pan from the heat, pour in the rum and creme de banana, if using, then return the pan to the heat. Brush down the sides of the pan with water using a pastry brush. Remove from heat.
In a small saute pan, add 1/4 cup of the caramel sauce and the bananas. Saute over high heat until just warmed through. Keep warm.
Toast: Preheat a griddle or a nonstick pan over high heat. Dip the bread slices into the batter, then put them on the griddle, turning over after 2 minutes. To each serving plate, add 1/4 cup of the caramel sauce and top with the French toast. Spoon the bananas, over the toast and drizzle with some of the caramel sauce.

✅Ingredients
French Toast:
2 cups milk
5 large eggs
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup rum
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
16 thick slices of Challah Brioche, or Texas Toast
Rum Sauce:
1/2 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Pinch of nutmeg
3 bananas sliced into coins
1/2 cup rum
1/4 cup walnuts or pecans optional
✅Instructions
1️⃣ In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the milk and eggs.
2️⃣ Add in the flour, brown sugar, rum, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and salt. Whisk until the mixture is smooth.
3️⃣ Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium-high heat.
4️⃣ Soak each slice of bread in the egg mixture until it is saturated, then cook the bread on each side until it is golden brown.
5️⃣ To make the rum sauce, heat the butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat. Stir frequently until the mixture becomes bubbly. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes.
6️⃣ Add in the sliced bananas and gently stir and cook until they become tender, which takes about 4 minutes.
7️⃣ Turn off the heat and remove the skillet or saucepan from the stove. Add in the rum, and then carefully ignite it. Swirl the pan until the flames go out. (Alternatively, you can pour the sauce over the french toast and then light it for a special effect!)
8️⃣ Drizzle the rum sauce over the cooked french toast and serve. Optional: top with walnuts or pecans.
