Cheddar Cheese and Spinach Strata - Best Recipes with Drew Maresco
Quick, Delicious Breakfast. Meet the strata - wait, a what? What is a strata you ask? It's a cross between a quiche, a bread pudding and a baked french toast. Usually flavored with savory fillings but they can be filled with anything your heart desires. The great thing about a strata is that they can be made a day ahead - what's not to love about that? Just assemble, cover with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator. Enjoy this stress-free breakfast.
INGREDIENTS
6 ounces fresh spinach
5 eggs
1 cup milk
Salt and pepper
1/2 16 ounce sourdough boule, cubed 1″ pieces
1 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
DIRECTIONS
0:28 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high, add spinach and cook until wilted (about 2 minutes).
1:09 2. In a medium bowl, combine eggs, milk, salt, and pepper. In a 1 quart greased baking dish, add half of the bread cubes. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese, half of the spinach and pour half of the egg mixture over the top. Repeat with remaining ingredients.
3:42 3. Place dish on a baking sheet and bake until tops are golden and the center springs back when lightly pressed, about 45 minutes. Cover with aluminum foil halfway through if top becomes too dark.

In this video, we'll show you how to bake a breakfast casserole. We add bacon for a nice smoky flavor, some grated Cheddar to make it nice and cheesy, and a bit of mustard for some tang. The bottom of the casserole is layered with croutons, giving it a nice crust.

00:00:00 Why do I always edit when I'm hungry?
00:01:20 Why, yes. I did add wine...
00:02:00 You should make this.
INGREDIENTS:
*3 TBSP BUTTER
*1 SHALLOT, MINCED
*1 TBSP EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL
*1 CUP OF THAT AWESOME IMITATION CRAB
*1/4 TSP SALT (FOR STEP 3)
*A PINCH OF PEPPER (FOR STEP 3)
*2 TBSP MADEIRA
*1 TBSP TOMATO PASTE
*3 EGGS
*1 CUP WHIPPING CREAM
*1/4 TSP SALT (FOR STEP 5)
*A PINCH OF PEPPER (FOR STEP 5)
DIRECTIONS:
1. PREHEAT THE OVEN TO 375F.
2. IN A MEDIUM SKILLET, HEAT OIL AND BUTTER UNTIL THE BUTTER FOAMS. ADD THE MINCED SHALLOT, AND SAUTE UNTIL IT IS TRANSCLUCENT.
3. ADD THE CRAB MEAT AND SAUTE UNTIL IT FALLS APART. SEASON WITH THE FIRST SET OF SALT AND PEPPER.
4. ADD THE WINE, AND THE TOMATO PASTE. BOIL THE CRAB MEAT UNTIL ALL THE JUICES ARE EVAPORATED. THE CRAB WILL BE A PRETTY, CRIMSON COLOR - DARKER IF YOU ADDED THE WINE.
5. IN A SEPARATE BOWL, BEAT THE EGGS WITH THE CREAM, AND ADD THE SECOND SET OF SALT AND PEPPER.
6. SPRAY A CASSEROLE DISH (ONE WITH HIGH SIDES) WITH BAKERS JOY COOKING SPRAY.
7. POUR THE EGG MIXTURE INTO THE DISH. ADD THE CRAB MIXTURE, AND STIR TO EVENLY DISTRIBUTE.
8. COOK FOR ABOUT 25-30 MINUTES UNTIL IT PUFFS UP, AND LOOKS ALMOST LIKE A CAKE.
7. ENJOY!
