12 tablespoons unsalted butter
2/3 cup sugar (brown or white or a combination)
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Grate cold butter into a large bowl. Alternately, you can dice it small.
Add sugar: use all brown or all white or a combination to make 2/3 cup. Use whatever combination you like (I like using 1/3 cup each brown and white).
Add flour and then, using a pastry cutter, work the butter into the flour and sugar until the mixture forms coarse crumbs.
Use crumble as recipe directs, on a fruit pie or on muffins or coffee cake. Bake as directed in recipe.

Traditional Apple & Cinnamon Crumble. Recipe & Cook With Me!
Hey guys and a very warm welcome back to what’s for tea :) I’m making an apple and sultana crumble today….I’ll be making 6 or 7 individual ones using the small foil dishes that you see at the back there. A friend of mine isn’t very well just now and I thought it would be nice to send some round :) ordinarily, I would have just made it in one dish….so obviously it’s up to you how you divide this up! It’s super quick and easy to make and also super cheap! You’ll probably find you’ll have most if not all of the ingredients in your pantry already…except from maybe the apples….you only need 2 or three so like I said, very inexpensive and you end up with delicious desert which will feed 6 or 7 people! Perfect for this time of the year when you want something warm and comforting!
Shopping list:
200g of room temperature butter
A couple of handfuls of Sultanas:
225 grams of soft brown unrefined sugar (175g for the crumble and the 50g for the filling)
3 (or 1lb) Large cooking apples, peeled, cored & chopped into bite size pieces
1 teaspoon of Cinnamon
300 grams plain (all purpose) Sifted flour (reserve 1 tablespoon for your filling)

Let's Cook!
Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4.
Place the flour and sugar in a large bowl and mix well.
Taking a few cubes of butter at a time rub into the flour mixture. Keep rubbing until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
Place the fruit in a large bowl and sprinkle over the sugar, flour and cinnamon. Stir well being careful not to break up the fruit.
Spoon the fruit mixture into the bottom of the dish or dishes of your choice, then sprinkle the crumble mixture on top.
Bake in the oven for 40-45 minutes until the crumble is browned and the fruit mixture bubbling.
Serve with thick cream, Ice cream or custard!
