How To make Spicy Pea Soup
10 c Water
1 1/2 c Split green peas
2 x Carrots, diced fine
2 x Celery, diced fine
1 x Onion,chopped fine
1 t Onion powder
1 t Garlic powder
1 t Paprika
1/4 ts Cayenne
2 tb Soy sauce
Place peas and water in large pot. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium low, add remaining ingredients, cover and cook for 2 hours. Stir occasionally. When the ingredients are smooth like puree, serve. Helpful hint: stirring with a wisk helps blend the ingredients. FROM: Mcdougall Helath Supporting Cookbook

Spicy Lentil and Split Pea Soup
Super easy, super cheesy and (SOUP)ER DELICIOUS????
A homemade, hearty soup idea loaded with cheese AND flavour
Ingredients:
- 1 cup IMBO brown lentils
- 1 cup IMBO split peas
- 3 tbsp olive oil for frying
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 carrot, chopped
- 2 stalks celery, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp chilli powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 cups vegetable stock
- 1 pack of bacon, diced
- Cheese, grated
- French loaf, sliced
Method:
1. Rinse lentils and split peas until the water runs clear.
2. Brown onion in olive oil, once browned add the celery, carrots and garlic. Once browned, add turmeric, paprika, chili powder, salt and pepper.
3. Stir to coat the vegetables before adding the drained grains and vegetable stock.
4. Bring to the boil and reduce to a simmer for 60 minutes.
5. Spread diced bacon evenly on a tray. Grill at 180 degrees Celsius until crispy.
6. Using a handheld blender, blend the soup until smooth.
7. Top bread slices with grated cheese and place on top of the soup. Place the bowl into the oven and allow the cheese to melt.
8. Once ready, serve the soup with crispy bacon pieces, a sprinkling of paprika and ENJOY!

A warm and mildly spiced soup for a quick meal on a rainy day. A comforting soup that is full of nutrients and flavours, ready in 20 minutes.
MATAR SHORBA
Ingredients
2 cups fresh green peas (matar), shelled
1 tablespoon oil
1 medium onion, chopped
1 tablespoon chopped garlic
1-2 green chillies, chopped
8-10 fresh coriander roots, chopped
Salt to taste
Crushed black peppercorns to taste
½ teaspoon garam masala powder
2 tablespoons fresh cream + for drizzling
1 teaspoon lemon juice
Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Method
1. Heat oil in a deep non-stick pan, add onion, garlic, green chillies and coriander roots, mix and sauté for 1-2 minutes. Add green peas, mix and sauté for 1 minute.
2. Add salt and mix. Add 2½ cups water and mix. Cook on medium heat for 8-10 minutes. Take the pan off the heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly.
3. Transfer into a grinder jar and grind to a smooth consistency. Pour this into the same pan and place the pan back on heat.
4. Add 1½ cups water, mix and cook for 1-2 minutes. Add crushed black peppercorns and garam masala powder and mix well.
5. Switch off the heat and add cream and mix. Add lemon juice, mix and pour into serving bowls.
6. Drizzle fresh cream, sprinkle crushed black peppercorns and garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot.
