Kraut Dog with Mustard - Quick & Easy Recipe
This is the way I make my hot dogs. Nothing much to the recipe, it's an anti-recipe. Pick any type of hot dog you like including vegan. I get sauerkraut from the can & yellow mustard from a squeeze bottle. And visit my cooking blog for more recipes done artfully & with humor:
Directions Hot Dog - I place a steamer basket in a pot with an inch or so of water. Add the weiner(s) and bring the water to a low simmer then cover the pot. I like to steam mine until plump, about 5 minutes. If you are steaming a lot then check the water level from time to time to refill.
Hot Dog Bun - I also steam them until pillowy and soft. I put a bun or two right on top of my steamed hot dog, cover the pot, and steam the bun for a minute or so. A quick grill on the stovetop softens them quite nicely.
Mustard - I like generic yellow mustard but I will splurge on Dijon Mustard. Sometimes I go for Whole Grain Spicy Mustard.
Sauerkraut - from the jar or can. I heat some on the stovetop in a pot. Make sure to shake out the brine liquid before putting it in a bun or your first bite will be soggy.

Smart Supermarket Recipes - BBQ Mustard Hotdog with Spiced Beans & Cheddar Cheese - by Chef Manuel
-- 1 Bag Tesco frozen Thin & Crispy oven chips -- 12 Tesco frozen Thick Pork Cumberland Sausages -- 2 Tins Tesco Hot & Spicy mixed beans -- 200g Grated Cheddar cheese -- 1 Bottle Tesco Mustard BBQ South Carolina Sauce -- 12 Hot dog buns from the Smart Bakery
Method:
Start this recipe by cooking the chips. Place the thin and crispy oven chips spaced well apart on a baking tray and cook at 200`c for 16 minutes.
Meanwhile, heat a griddle pan and fry the pork sausages for 15-20 minutes or until cooked through.
Tip the hot & spicy mixed beans into a small pan and heat though for 2 minutes.
Also, slit the hot dog buns down the middle and warm for a minute in the oven. When you are ready to put the hot dogs together, fill the middle of each warm hotdog bun with the grated Cheddar cheese.
Place a pork sausage on top in each bun and spoon over the warmed hot & spicy mixed beans. Finish off with a generous squeeze of the mustard BBQ South Carolina sauce on top and serve with the Tesco thin & crispy chips on the side.
