two cups of navy beans mashed, half a cup of softened butter, half a cup of granulated sugar, half a cup of brown sugar ,4 eggs beaten, one cup of heavy whipping cream, 2 tbsp of flour ,2 tsp of nutmeg and 2 tsp of cinnamon.
pie crust -this will make two 9-inch pies
bake on 350 for 1 hour

Today I am celebrating Juneteenth Day by making 2 Bean Pies which was a favorite when I was a kid. The American Muslims use to sell this in my neighborhood which has always been diversified because I moved around a lot. I always loved the sweetness and still cannot believe that it is made from BEANS.
RECIPE
WHAT DO YOU NEED?
2 cans of Great Northern Beans or Navy Beans
2 Cups of Dark Sugar
1/2 Cup of Melted Butter
2 Eggs
1 Can of Evaporated Milk
1 1/2 Teaspoon Cinnamon
1/2 Teaspoon Nutmeg
1/2 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
Frozen Pie Crust
INSTRUCTIONS
Set oven for 400 degrees F
Pre mix your dry ingredients in a bowl
Place pie crust in oven for 15 minutes
Melt butter in small pan
Drain your beans (Great Northern or Navy Beans)
Add beans to food processor or blender
Add liquid ingredients
Pulse blend liquid ingredients for 6 seconds and then add dry ingredients.
Pulse blend until mixed well and beans are emulsified.
Remove pie crest from oven and place aluminum foil round the edge of the crust.
add mixture to pies.
Increase Oven temperature to 475 degrees F
Place pie in oven for approximately 25 minutes then lower temperature to 350 degrees F and bake for an additional 35 minutes
Remove pies and let rest for 20 minutes

Bean Pie (You've never had pie this good before)
Navy Bean Pie dates back to the 1930s. Stories have it that is was introduced as an alternative food to some of the more prominent soul food dishes. It was commonly sold on street corners for $1 each as a fund raiser. I can remember well into the late 80s and early 90s coming to a red light on several city streets, rolling down my window and passing a one dollar bill to a young man dress in a dark colored 2 piece suit and tie and being handed one of those glorious Navy Bean Pies! Delicious!

Navy Bean Pie Ingredients:
2 cans (15.5 ounce) navy beans rinsed and drained
2 pie crust - Recipe here for my easy homemade pie crust:
1 can evaporated milk
2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
3 large eggs
2 tablespoons All Purpose Flour
2 tablespoons Vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger or nutmeg
PLEASE NOTE:
***Any unused filling can be stored in an air tight container for up to 30 days in the refrigerator
***Once you turn you oven down to 350 degrees Fahrenheit lay a piece of foil over the
top of each pie very loosely IF they start to brown to soon.

5 CUPS POTATOES
1/2 TSP BLACK PEPPER
1/4 CUP MILK
3TBSP BUTTER
SALT
FOR THE BOTTOM LAYER

200ML BEANS
200ML TOMATO
SALT PEPPER
1TSP THYME
1TSP CHILLI POWDER
1/2 TBSP GARLIC
OIL TO START

Bean Pie Recipe
Bean Pie may not sound appetizing, but trust...it is! It's not too sweet but sweet enough. If you are one who loves a slice of pie as a side to a main dish, then this recipe is for you.
Ingredients:
????️2 9-inch Deep Pie Crust
????️2 cans of beans (Pinto, Northern White, or Navy) (15oz)
????️ ½ cup melted butter (room temp)
????️1 can Evaporated milk (12oz)
????️2 Cups Brown Sugar (Dark & Light or mix)
????️1½ tsp Cinnamon
????️½ tsp Nutmeg
????️2 large eggs
????️2 tbsp All-purpose Flour
????️2 tbsp Vanilla Extract
????️ 1 tsp All-Spice (opt)
????️ 1 tsp Creme Bouquet (opt)
Note: Cold ingredients should be room temperature.
Pie Filling:
Use a blender or food processor. Blend the rinsed & drained beans, milk, sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, eggs, flour & vanilla.
Directions:
▪️Make the crust from scratch or make sure frozen crust is thawed out.
▪️Heat the oven on 375° or 400°.
▪️Poke holes into the crust and cover the edges with foil or special cooking gadget. Bake for 10 mins.
▪️Once done, set the oven to 450°.
▪️Pour filling into the crust & bake for 15 mins. ▪️Set the oven to 350° and bake for an additional 35 mins.
Let set for an hour (not like I did) before cutting. Flavor & texture is best when set overnight. Enjoy!
