Naan Recipe in Tamil | How to make Naan at home | Indian Flat Bread Recipe | Tawa Naan Recipe
In this video we will see how to make naan recipe in tamil. This homemade naan / Indian Flat bread can be made without tandoor. It can be made in a tawa as tawa naan or can be made in an oven. There are two secrets in making a perfect naan, one is patience and a lot of that and the second is high heat. Traditionally naan is made in tandoors or clay ovens where the temperatures can go from 600-800 deg celcius so we want to use as high heat as possible. If using a oven use the maximum temperature setting there. DO NOT USE BROIL mode. For tawa naan, the best results are obtained using a cast iron tawa pan.

Garlic Naan
This is the easiest, the best recipe for garlic naan I can find. You can make any type of naan with this recipe. Sub the garlic butter at the end for some honey, or perhaps fold in a few caramelized onions to the dough before cooking. So. Darn. Good.

- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 7g tsp active dry yeast
- 3 heaped tbsp plain yoghurt
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp oil
- Some oil for greasing the skillet
- 3 tbsp melted butter
- 2 cloves of garlic, crushed
- Small handful of coriander, sliced thin
Method
1. Start by mixing together the flour, sugar, water, yeast, salt, yoghurt, and a drizzle of olive oil in a mixing bowl.
2. Once the dough has started to form into a ball, turn it out onto a floured surface and knead for 10 minutes or until it's smooth.
3. Place it back into a greased bowl and cover with a tea towel for 30 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.
4. Remove the dough from the bowl and onto an oiled bench. Cut the dough into 8 even pieces.
5. Roll the 8 pieces into tight, smooth balls before rolling them out with a rolling pin.
6. On one side, place some garlic and coriander before flipping it and rolling out once more so it embeds.
7. Cook the naan in one of the three ways shown in the video, and as soon as they're cooked, brush with some melted butter.

Recipe
Naan bread is traditionally baked on the walls of a tandoori oven, but you can easily make this at home, using a cast iron skillet. Once you see how easy it is to make authentic naan from scratch, you’ll never buy pre-made again!
Servings: 6
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Resting Time: 1 hour
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Ingredients
¾ cup (180 mL) warm water (just about body temperature)
½ cup (125 mL) plain yogurt (any fat %)
2 Tbsp (60 mL) olive oil or vegetable oil
2 ¼ tsp (1 pkg) 8 g instant yeast
2 ½ cups (375 g) all-purpose flour (plain flour)
½ tsp (2 mL) salt
melted butter or ghee, for brushing
sea salt and/or chopped fresh coriander, for sprinkling
Directions
1. Place the water, yogurt, oil, yeast, 2 ¼ cups (337 g) of the flour and salt in a large mixing bowl and stir with a wooden spoon until it becomes to awkward. Pour the remaining ¼ cup (37 g) of flour on a clean work surface and tip the dough out onto it. Knead the dough for about 3 minutes, turning it and working in all of the remaining flour. Place the dough back in the bowl, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and set aside to rise for an hour.
2. Turn the dough out onto a work surface lightly dusted with flour and divide it into 6 pieces. Roll out each piece of dough into a rough circle (precision is not essential here) about 8 or 9-inches (20-23 cm) across.
3. Heat a cast iron or other heavy-bottomed skillet on high heat. Drop in a naan and cook for about 90 seconds, until browned in spots on the bottom. Use tongs to flip the naan over to cook another 90 seconds, until the bubbles blister and turn toasty brown. Brush the naan with melted butter or ghee, sprinkle with salt and/or coriander. Repeat with the remaining pieces of dough. Stacking the naan will keep it warm, or you can hold them in a 300 F (150 C) oven until ready to serve.
The naan is best eaten the day it’s cooked.
