BRITISH BAKED BEANS
British Baked Bean Recipe, easy to make and delicious. Make British-Style baked beans at home and serve them for your next summer barbecue.
Recipe below:
1 Cup Dried Navy Beans
3 Cups Water, for Boiling
1 Cup of Vegetable Broth or Water plus Bouillon
1 Medium Onion
2 Cloves Garlic
1 Teaspoon Pink Himalayan Salt
1 Tablespoon Molasses
¼ Cup Organic Cane Sugar
⅓ Cup Ketchup
1 Teaspoon Vegan Worcestershire Sauce (optional)
1 Tablespoon Cornstarch
Yield: 6 Servings
Prep Time: 10 Minutes
Cooking Time: 1 Hour
In a medium saucepan, add dried navy beans, water, and salt.
Bring to boil on high heat for about 40 minutes, or until the navy beans are tender but not all the way cooked.
Once most of the water is evaporated, reduce the flame to low.
Add vegetable broth or water and bouillon cube, onion, garlic, molasses, cane sugar, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce.
Simmer on low for another 15 minutes or until all the beans are soft.
Mix 2 tablespoons of water and cornstarch in a small bowl until it is completely dissolved and pour back into the beans.
Cook for another 5 minutes until the sauce is thick but still runny.

Ingredients:
2cups - Navy / Haricot or 1lbs Bag
1/4cup - Tomato Paste
1/4cup Tomato Ketchup
3cups - Chicken Stock
2cups - Water
1tbsp - Worcestershire Sauce
1tbsp - Rice or Apple Cider Vinegar
1/4cup - Brown Sugar or tt

British Baked Beans (Heinz Copycat Recipe)

British Baked Beans are just like store bought Heinz, and as close in flavor as you will find, but better because they’re homemade and haven’t been sitting in a can. Similar to American-style, but meat-free and without the smoky flavor, just like mum used to serve. Navy, great northern (or haricot) beans are cooked in tomato sauce for a taste of a British classic.

An adventure in beans and tomato sauce brings me to this project. Attempting to make homemade Heinz style baked beans. UK style beans are different to others in some Countries, perhaps a little less sweet / smokey in some ways - stored in a tomato sauce with a mild sweet kick they are the ultimate comfort food! This was a recipe to make UK style ones from home and I picked up some cool tips along the way, i'm not sure if i'd do it again but it was really fun to make my own, they were fresher and tasted identical! Ingredients list (adjusted after making video with hints):
500g dried haricot beans (other white beans are ok, like cannellini)
500ml chicken stock
225ml tap water
1tsp Worcestershire sauce
6tbsp ketchup (ideally Heinz)
1.5tbsp dark brown sugar
2tbsp tomato puree
1tbsp apple cider vinegar
1tsp garlic powder (or more onion powder)
1tsp onion powder (or more garlic powder)
2tsp salt
Pinch pepper
12tsp cornflour mixed with 100ml water

Ingredients:
1 tbsp olive oil
1 large onion chopped
3 cloves of garlic sliced
1 tinned of tomatoes
2 tins of baked beans
2 tbsp tomato puree
3 tbsp red wine vinegar
2 tbsp of muscovado sugar
½ tsp cayenne pepper
½ tsp dried thyme
Method:
- To start this recipe, pre heat a large casserole dish on to the stove with a medium heat, pour in the oil, throw in the onions and garlic, fry until golden brown. This may take a little time but building the flavours up like this will make all the difference once this is cooked out.
- Next up add the sugar, herbs and tomato puree and cook out for a couple of minutes. Then pour in the vinegar, tin tomatoes, sausages and drained beans.
- Bring the stew up to the boil and reduce to a simmer for 20 minutes and simmer for five more minutes.
- Then serve either as they are or on a slice of chunky toasted sourdough.

Vegan Baked Beans (with easy to follow steps!)
Saucy, sweet, and savory, this Vegan Baked Beans recipe is so simple to make, and packed with flavor. It's the perfect BBQ side dish, and you can make it on the stovetop, so you won't need to heat up the kitchen!

Ingredients
1 tbsp olive oil
1 onion diced
3 cloves garlic crushed
1 tbsp tomato paste
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 ½ tsp smoked paprika
1 ½ tsp chili powder mix
42 ounces (3 cans) cannellini beans
14 ounces (1 can) chopped tomatoes
½ cup vegetable stock
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Heat the olive oil in a large pot. Fry the onion on a medium setting until softened (about 5 minutes), then add the garlic and cook for another minute, stirring constantly.
Add the tomato paste, soy sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika and chili powder. Mix well and cook for another few minutes.
Add the cannellini beans, chopped tomatoes, vegetable stock and some salt and pepper to taste. Stir well, bring to a boil then leave to simmer for 25 minutes.
