his Is Our Family’s Favorite 7 Layer Bean Dip Recipe! It Has Loads Of Flavor And All Your Favorite Dip Ingredients Including Avocados, Olives, Tomatoes, Cheese, Guacamole, And More! It’s A Must-Have Appetizer At Every Family Function.
Our family loves to get together and eat all food, but Mexican food is our favorite.
we always have some scrumptious sides to go along with it like today’s recipe for our 7 Layer Bean Dip.
It is one of those appetizers that we always seem to have when we are eating Mexican food… especially for Cinco de Mayo.
This bean dip recipe is simple and easy to put together. Spread it over a large platter to serve lots of people. We think it’s perfect for all those summer potlucks and family gatherings or for any Mexican meal.
HOW TO MAKE 7 LAYER BEAN DIP:
Making this layered bean dip is so easy. Once you’ve picked the layers you want to include, prepare each one to go in your dish. We start with beans. This can be made with your own version of beans, canned refried beans, or even Frito’s Bean dip.
From there we added guacamole. We like to use our homemade guac, but you can also use store-bought guacamole. The next layer is sour cream (which you can keep on its own) or mixed with a package of taco seasoning.
The top layers are all the toppings you love – olives, chopped tomatoes, cheese, cilantro/green onions/chiles/etc. It’s really that easy.
What are the best chips to serve with layered bean dip? We have tried all sorts of tortilla chips, and our favorite chips are Juanita’s. They’re light, airy, and crispy! Another favorite we like is Tostino’s Cantina Thin and Crispy chips. It’s great with Frito’s too.
Can 7 layer bean dip be made ahead of time? We recommend refrigerating this bean dip for at least an hour before serving. If covered, this dip can be made up to 24 hours in advance. We just recommend waiting to add chopped tomatoes and the greens (cilantro, green onions, etc) until right before serving.
How long does seven-layer bean dip last? If covered properly, this bean dip can last for up to 48 hours in the fridge. The guac makes it harder to last longer, but it’s definitely a dip that can be enjoyed the next day.
The fun thing about this 7 layer bean dip is you can add as many additional layers as you’d like. Avocados, corn, whichever ingredients you like in your bean dip. OR you can try making our Loaded Nachos which is pretty much this bean dip, cooked over cheesy tortilla chips!

7 LAYER DIP | Easy Meatless No Bake Appetizer (aka Taco Dip)
Whether you call it 7 layer dip or taco dip (even though there is no lettuce in this one), this easy appetizer is sure to be a crowd pleaser, at your next party or game-day gathering (maybe your Super Bowl party!)
Original Recipe:
What you’ll need:
- 1-16 oz can of refried beans
- 2 tablespoons of milk
- 8 oz cream cheese, at room temperature
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 tablespoons taco seasoning
- 1 cup of guacamole
- 1 1/4 cups salsa (if yours is very liquidy, press it through a sieve, to get out the excess moisture)
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup sliced black olives OR diced tomatoes (or both!)
- 4 green onions, sliced
What you’ll do:
1. Get out a 9x13 pan. The disposable ones that you can find a grocery store, but use whatever one you want
2. In a medium bowl, mix together the refried beans and milk, until smooth (I think water would work just fine; I think the liquid is just to help loosen up the refried beans)
3. Spread your refried beans into the bottom of your pan, in a smooth, even layer
4. Again, in a medium bowl, combine your softened cream cheese, your sour cream, and your taco seasoning. Mix it together until smooth. This may be done with a hand mixer, or in a stand mixer.
5. Spread the cream cheese mixture on top of your refried beans, in an even layer
6. On top of the cream cheese layer spread the guacamole into an even layer
7. on top of the guacamole layer evenly spread the salsa.
8. On top of the salsa layer sprinkle your shredded cheddar cheese in an even layer
9. On top of the cheese, sprinkle your sliced black olives or your diced tomatoes - or neither! (If you just don’t like them!)
10. On top of the olive/tomato layer, sprinkle year for sliced green onions
11. Place the dip in the fridge, to chill, for an hour, and then you’re ready to serve it, and enjoy! I enjoy eating it with tortilla chips, but the original recipe says you can serve it with crackers… You can serve it with us with whatever crunchy, dipping snack you want

How to Make Texas Style 7 Layer Dip
7 Layer Dip is a familiar favorite at most football parties. But for the life of me, I can't figure out why all the recipes are considered Southwestern. Living in the South Texas, food is rarely covered with sour cream or olives. Delicious, but rarely seen!
So I came up with a 7 Layer Dip that we would enjoy here along to border of Texas – chock full of our favorite ingredients such as Mexican chorizo, frijoles, avocados and 2 kinds of cheese. To me, this sounds way more Southwestern than a can of black olives!
Even though it's called 7 Layer Dip, I think you can add as many layers as you like. I mean, who is going to stop you, right? Just add all the yummy toppings that you love and it will be delicious!
