La Mirada Farmers’ Market happens on Saturdays between 9AM and 2PM, in the parking lot in front of the library on La Mirada Boulevard (next to the fire station).
The name of the stall’s company was Chavelas.
(They were not present a couple weeks later on another visit to the Farmers' Market).

Un ossobuco estofado súper tierno… ????
Hoy me apetecía un guiso tradicional, partiendo de un buen producto y sin prisas. Este ossobuco estofado es el resultado. Una carne muy tierna, que se deshace casi con la mirada, ya ni es cuento en la boca… ¡no tardéis en hacerlo!

????INGREDIENTES (3-4 personas):
▪️3 piezas de ossobuco (1,2kg aprox.)
▪️1 cebolla
▪️2 zanahorias
▪️1/2 puerro
▪️1/2 rama de apio
▪️1 tomate grande troceado (unos 150g, sin piel)
▪️3 dientes de ajo
▪️1 vaso de vino tinto
▪️Caldo de carne/pollo/verduras (unos 500ml, hasta cubrir)
▪️Aceite de oliva virgen extra
▪️Sal y pimiento al gusto
???????????? PASO A PASO:
1️⃣ Salpimentar el ossobuco y dorar bien por ambos lados, en una olla con aceite de oliva para sellar la carne. Reservar.
2️⃣ En la misma olla rehogar las hortalizas picadas, unos 10-15 minutos a fuego medio. Agregar el tomate troceado y sofreír otros 10 minutos más. Verter el vino tinto y reducir casi por completo (a fuego alto para evaporar el alcohol).
3️⃣ Reincorporar la carne, cubrir con el caldo (de carne o pollo, preferiblemente) y hervir a fuego lento unas 2 horas y media con la olla tapada, hasta que la carne esté bien tierna.
4️⃣ Retirar las piezas de ossobuco con cuidado de que no se rompan y triturar la salsa. Reincorporar todo a la olla y reducir a fuego suave otros 25-30 minutos más o hasta que la salsa adquiera el color y la textura que buscamos.
5️⃣ ¡Servir con la guarnición que más nos guste y a disfrutar!

Habibi Grill is a fast casual halal middle eastern restaurant that opened in 2021. The halal eatery has something for everyone from falafel and shawarma to chicken wings and cheeseburgers.
During my first trip, I ordered a Shish Taouk plate that includes cubes of grilled boneless chicken, grilled bell peppers and onions, garlic sauce, Arab yellow rice, toasted pita bread, and two sides; I opted for Tabouleh and Baba Ganoush. The meal was delicious. My total cost was about $25 with taxes and tip, and I had leftovers for later.
Finally, Habibi provided a verbal statement they only use zabiha halal meat on their menu. I was also provided a recent invoice for the purchase of halal meat. Additionally, the halal restaurant does not sell alcohol.

MELAS ZOMOS
INGREDIENTS
- 2lb (1kg) Pig Leg (or other pork product)
- 2 Cups (1/2 liter) Pig Blood
- 1 Cup (235ml) White Wine Vinegar
- 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
- 1 Tsp Salt
- 4 Cups (1 Litre) Water
- 3 Bay Leaf
- 1 Large Chopped Onion
METHOD
1. Set a large stock pot over medium heat, then add the olive oil and onions and cook until tender and lightly brown, about 10 minutes.
2. Add the chopped pork to the pot book for another 10 minutes.
3. Pour in the vinegar and 3-4 cups of water (4 if you have fresh pig's blood, 3 if you have coagulated blood), the salt and the bay leaves. Once boiling, lower the heat to medium low and let the soup simmer, covered, for 45 minutes to and hour or until the pork is cooked through.
4. Add the pork blood* and simmer for 15 minutes more, then serve.
*If you are using coagulated pork blood, mix it with the final cup of water in a blender and blend until most of it is liquid. Strain out any large chunks and add the liquid to the soup.
