RECIPE HERE --
INGREDIENTS
8 slices Texas Toast preferably stale
4 eggs
¾ c. heavy cream
1 Tbsp vanilla extract
4 Tbsp butter melted
Cinnamon Sugar
⅓ c. sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
INSTRUCTIONS
Cut each slice of bread into three sticks, set aside.
In a large bowl or pie plate whisk together the eggs, heavy cream and vanilla extract.
Combine the cinnamon sugar mixture on a plate and set aside.
Lightly coat the basket of air fryer with nonstick cooking spray.
Roll the sticks in the egg mixture quickly (you don’t want it to soak in), shake off excess and place in the pan. Cook in multiple batches.
Place French toast sticks in the basket, in a single layer, making sure they do not touch each other. You’ll need to cook them in batches. Set the air fryer to 360° and cook 6 minutes, flip, and cook for an additional 1-3 minutes, watching closely, or until golden brown.
Place butter in a microwave safe bowl and melt.
Remove sticks from the basket, dip in butter then roll in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
Repeat the process with remaining bread.
To keep the cooked French Toast Sticks warm while making another batch simply place them in a single layer on a baking sheet and then put them in a warm oven (175 – 200 degrees F). It will keep them warm and crispy until you are done cooking all of the French toast.
Serve with warm maple syrup, berries and whipped cream if desired.
NOTES
Pick a hearty bread like Texas Toast that will hold up being dipped in batter.
It helps to use a serrated knife to slice the bread – that way you won’t squish it while you’re cutting it and you’ll get perfectly shaped sticks.
Don’t soak the bread in the batter, just enough to get it coated.
You don’t want to overcrowd the basket of the air fryer when you put the sticks into it because they won’t cook right if you do. The air needs to be able to circulate all around the sticks – that’s how you get that amazing crispy exterior! You may need to cook them in batches depending on how big your air fryer is.
If you don’t want the cinnamon sugar topping simply skip it for a more traditional french toast taste.
Store leftovers in fridge for up to three days.
These are freezer friendly. Place in a single layer on baking pan and place in freezer. Once they are frozen place them in a freezer bag for up to two months.
To reheat sticks from the refrigerator or freezer you can do it your air fryer, but you can also do it in your oven or microwave.
