How To make Feuerzangenbowle
3 Bottles of red wine
1 Piece of orange peel
1 Piece of lemon peel
5 Cloves
1 Small sugar hat
1 Bottle of golden rum
-at least 108 proof Put orange peel, lemon peel and cloves into a tea filter bag, tie shut with white yarn. Hang into a copper kettle, pour in wine. Heat up close to boiling point, but make sure it never gets to boil. Put the kettle in the middle of your table so all your guests can watch the ceremony :-). You normally use a "Feuerzange", but as I supect this might be hard to get outside Europe I guess you can also use a grid from your barbecue set - especially the ones you normally use to barbecue herrings in should work pretty well. The point is that you should be able to put the sugar hat on it (lying on its side) and place the whole thing safely over the kettle. Once you've got that far, you're ready for the ceremony. First, dim your lights. Then pour some rum onto the sugar hat, best using a ladle, and light it (this is why the rum has to be at least 108 proof). Keep the flames burning by ladeling more rum on the sugar hat, until the sugar has completely melted and dripped into the wine. Remove the "Feuerzange" and the bag with the spices. Serve in heat-proof glasses. Variation: Many people like to add sugar and/or a little orange juice (preferably freshly pressed). Typed for you by Volkhart Baumgaertner

Rezept für 6 Personen
1,5 l trockener Rotwein
2 Zimtstangen
ca. 10 Gewürznelken (je nach Geschmack)
Schale einer unbehandelten Zitrone
120 ml Orangensaft
2 Orangenscheiben
Zuckerhut (250 g)
Rum (54%iger oder höherprozentig) zum Beträufeln
Zubereitung:

Feuerzangenbowle
Feuerzangenbowle ) is a traditional German alcoholic drink for which a rum-soaked sugarloaf is set on fire and drips into mulled wine. It is often part of a Christmas or New Year's Eve tradition. The name translates literally as fire-tongs punch.

Welcome back to my channel! It's cold outside so this is the perfect time to share with you all one of my favorite beverages from Germany, Feuerzangenbowle, translated to Fire Tongs Bowl or Fire Tongs Punch. This popular beverage is sold at all German Christmas Markets and is like Glühwein with the addition of caramelized sugar and rum. The first time I had this beverage it kept me warm from head to toe. If you would like to see how I prepare this beverage join me and let's go! Thanks for your continued support! HUGS! ;-)

Homemade Zuckerhut (Sugar Cones) for Feuerzangenbowle
For best results, use superfine sugar. Domino's superfine sugar works great. In the video, I used Domino's regular sugar, which also works fine. But recently I found that our local store brand of sugar did not work, because the grains were too large. I was able to get it to work by adding 3T of powdered sugar to the store brand sugar, which acted to help glue the larger grains together. I believe there is still room for improvement (e.g. would adding a bit of powdered sugar to superfine sugar work even better?), so if you find a better way, please leave a comment!
