How To make Crumbly Apple Pie
CRUST
recipe 1 c flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/3 c vegetable shortening :
chilled
1/4 c water ice cold
FILLING :
recipe 7 md Granny Smith apples peeled, cored, chop
:
-sliced thin 1/2 c sugar
1/4 tsp cinnamon ground
1/4 tsp nutmeg :
ground
1/4 tsp salt
TOPPING recipe 3/4 c brown sugar :
firmly packed
3/4 c flour
1/2 tsp nutmeg ground
1/3 c butter :
chilled, cut in pcs
45 minutes preparation 30 minutes chilling 35 minutes baking
1 Place oven rack in lowest position. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
2 To prepare crust, in a medium bowl, mix together flour and salt. using a pastry blender or 2 knives, cut shortening into flour mixture until coarse crumbs form.
3 Add water, 1 tablespoon at a time, tossing with a fork, until a dough forms. Shape into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for 30 minutes.
4 On a floured surface, using a floured rolling pin, roll dough into a 12" circle. Fit into a 9" pie pan. Trim excess dough, leaving a 1 inch overhang; make a decorative edge. 5 To prepare filling, mix together all ingredients. Spoon into crust.
6 To prepare topping, in a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, flour, and nutmeg. Using a pastry blender or 2 knives, cut butter into brown sugar mixture utnil coarse crumbs form. Sprinkle apples evenly with topping.
7 Bake pie until topping is lighlty browned and filling is bubbly, 35 minutes. If pie is overbrowning, cover loosely with aluminum foil. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.

Pie Crust
1 3/4 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup cornstarch
1/2 tsp salt
4 tbsp granulated sugar
3/4 cup Graham cracker crumbs
2/3 cup shortening
4 tbsp butter browned
1/2 cup cold water
An easy way to roll out pie crust is to place between two pieces of parchment/baking paper. Roll, remove top parchment and place pie crust with bottom parchment in pie dish. You can cut off excess parchment from sides.
sometimes I will press pie crust into dish rather than roll it out to make it easier. However you choose make sure the crust is even on bottom.
Crumble
1 and 1/4 cup flour
4 tbsp cold butter
4 tbsp browned butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
Filling
3 large apples
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp vanilla
1 tsp ground cinnamon
juice of 1 lemon or 2 tbsp orange juice
1 tbsp unsalted butter
1 and 1/2 tbsp flour

Ingredients:
For the crust:
2¾ cups (250g) Rolled oats
1¾ cups (220g) Flour
3/4 cup (150g) Brown sugar
1/2 cup (100g) White sugar
1 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1 cup (230g) Butter, cold
For the filling:
5 apples
2 tablespoons (15g) flour
2-3 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350F (175C).
2. Make the crust: in a large bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon and salt. Add cold, cubed butter and mix with your hands until crumbly. Reserve two cups of the mixture in the fridge for a later use.
3. Press the remaining crust mixture into a baking pan (13*9 inch). Press firmly.
4. Bake the crust for 15 minutes, then set aside.
5. Make the filling: peel the apples, then thinly slice. Arrange apple slices in a row on the cooled crust.
6. Sprinkle the apples with flour, sugar and cinnamon. Then, crumble the reserved crust mixture.
7. Bake for 35 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
8. Allow to cool, then cut into bars.
Notes:
• In the video you can see I’ve arranged apple slices in one row, but after trying it, I think it’s not enough, try layering two layers or more (5 apples should be enough).

Apple pie - or - apple crumble? If you can't decide what to make; give this recipe a try.
Ingredients:
For the Crust:
2½ cups (675 mL) all-purpose flour
1 tbsp (15 mL) granulated sugar
1 tsp (5 g) salt
1 cup (250 mL) unsalted butter, Cubed & Frozen
½ -- ¾ cup (125 -- 175 mL) ice water
Filling:
1 (9½ inch) deep dish pie crust
5 cups (1.25 L) apples - peeled, cored and sliced
½ cup (125 mL) granulated sugar
¾ tsp (3 mL) ground cinnamon
1 Tbsp (15 mL) instant tapioca
Topping:
⅓ cup (75 mL) granulated sugar
¾ cup (175 mL) all-purpose flour
6 Tbsp (90 mL) frozen cubed butter
Method:
Place the flour, sugar, salt, and frozen cubed butter in a food processor.
Pulse the mixture just until the butter & flour look like fine bread crumbs.
Turn the processor to on, and slowly drizzle in the ice water until a ball of dough starts to appear in the mixer bowl.
Stop the processor - you don't want to overwork the dough.
Turn the mix out onto the countertop and form into a ball.
Divide the dough in half, and wrap each with plastic wrap.
Refrigerate at least one hour before rolling out.
Preheat oven to 400ºF (200ºC.)
Mix together ½ cup sugar, cinnamon, and tapioca.
Mix this into the apples.
In a food processor pulse: ⅓ cup sugar, flour, and frozen butter until crumbly.
Pour apples into pie shell, and sprinkle crumble mixture over top.
Bake in preheated oven until apples are soft and top is lightly browned, about 40 minutes.
