2 c Sugar
2 c Flour
1/2 ts Salt
1/2 c Butter
1/2 c Crisco
1/4 c Cocoa
1 c Water
1/2 c Buttermilk
1 ts Soda
1 ts Vanilla
2 Eggs
1/2 c Butter
1/4 c Cocoa
6 tb Milk
1 ts Vanilla
1 lb Pk powered sugar
Sift sugar,flour & salt together. Mix in sauce pan butter,crisco, cocoa & water. Bring to a boil over high heat. Pour into sifted mixture, stir and add buttermilk, vanilla,eggs and soda. Bake at 400 deg 25-30 minutes. ***CHOCOLATE ICING*** Mix in sauce pan butter, milk, cocoa and vanilla and bring to a boil. Add powdered sugar, and ice while cake is hot. 1950's German Sweet Chocolate Sheet Cake
The is a very rich and moist home made cake straight out of the 1950's.
Ingredients for the cake:
1 package (4 ounces) Baker's German's Sweet Chocolate
1/2 cup water
2 cups all-purpose flour (sift before measuring)
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup softened butter (2 sticks) Not melted as I said in the video
2 cups sugar
4 egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup buttermilk
4 egg whites beaten to stiff peaks
Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes in greased and floured
10x16 pan or 3 nine inch cake pans lined with wax paper.
Coconut-Pecan Filling and Frosting:
1 - 12 ounce can evaporated milk
1 1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cup of melted butter (1 and 1/2 sticks)
4 egg yolks, slightly beaten
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
Cook in sauce pan over medium heat for about 12 minutes or until thicken slightly.
Add 7 ounces Baker's Angel Flake Coconut
1 1/2 cups broken pecan pieces
This cake freezes very well.

Chocolate Sponge Cake:
- 120 gr All Purpose Flour ( 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp)
- 30 gr Cocoa Powder ( 4 tbsp)
- 1 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 150 gr Sugar (3/4 cup)
- 5 Egg Yolks
- 5 Egg Whites
- 70 gr WARM milk (10 tbsp WARM Milk)
- 70 gr Butter (5 tbsp )
Soft Ganache Recipe:
- 500 gr Heavy Cream (18 ounces)
- 375 gr Dark Chocolate 50% cocoa (13.5 ounces)
- 2 1/2 tbsp Cocoa Powder
- 2 1/2 tbsp Butter
- Pinch of Salt
I used 7 x 11 and 10 x 16 inch pans
NOTE: The sponge itself doesn't have a deep chocolate flavor because it's MEANT to be paired with the decadent rich chocolate ganache. This cake sponge is fluffy and light because it was designed to be paired with this ganache, so don't use other fillings. However, if you're looking for a basic rich chocolate cake base, check my channel for those cakes :)
The consistency of your ganache will vary depending on how warm/cold the climate is. If your kitchen is really warm (Example: It's summer where you live), you'll need to put it in the fridge for it to thicken. Keep an eye on it though or the ganache will set up completely. If this does happen, you can microwave it for 20 seconds until it loosens up again.
Do not refrigerate this cake.
