Chocolatey Rich Goodness - Texas Sheet Cake For One or Two
Incredibly moist chocolate cake topped with a warm chocolate topping. Easy to make and the perfect amount to serve one or two people.
????Recipe ⬇️⬇️ & Printable Recipe ➡️
???? Ingredients
➡️FOR THE CAKE
½ cup all-purpose flour
½ cup sugar
¼ teaspoon baking soda
⅛ teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons butter
¼ cup water
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1 large egg white
2 tablespoons milk
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
➡️FOR THE FROSTING
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1½ tablespoons milk
1 cup powdered sugar
¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
⅛ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ cup chopped pecans
???? Instructions
➡️TO MAKE THE CAKE
1) Heat oven to 350°F (177°C). Lightly butter a 5x7-inch baking dish and set aside.
2) Stir together the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt in a medium-sized mixing bowl. Set aside.
3) In a 1-quart saucepan, heat the butter, water, and cocoa powder over medium-low heat, stirring frequently until mixture comes to a light simmer and butter has completely melted. Remove from heat and pour over flour mixture in the bowl; stir until well mixed.
4) Stir in egg white, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla.
5) Pour into the baking dish and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
➡️TO MAKE THE FROSTING
1) Melt butter in a small 1-quart saucepan over low heat.
2) Add the cocoa powder and milk and stir until the mixture begins to simmer.
3) Once the mixture is simmering, remove from the heat and whisk in powdered sugar (a little at a time), vanilla, and cinnamon. Whisk constantly until the frosting is smooth.
4) Stir in the nuts.
5) Spoon the warm frosting over the top of the cake. Use a rubber spatula to smooth out and spread if needed. Allow the cake to cool, then slice and enjoy.
???? Expert Tips
A) I recommend baking this chocolate sheet cake in a 5x7 baking dish with a base of 35 square inches or a 6x6 baking dish with a base of 36 square inches. You can also make two mini cakes using 10-ounce ramekins, or you can make 5-6 cupcakes. For best results use the baking dish sizes that are recommended. All of the baking dishes we use and recommend can be found on our Bakeware page (
B) Add 3-4 tablespoons of shredded coconut to the frosting for a German chocolate cake twist.
C) If the frosting sets up too quickly, place the saucepan back over very low heat and stir vigorously. Add an additional ½ tablespoon of milk to thin the frosting, if necessary.
