When the mood to bake strikes you and you’re wondering what you should whip up, don’t fall back on the standard banana or zucchini breads. Not that we don’t love them, but there’s another, tastier dish you should make instead: sweet Alabama pecanbread. Same or similar ingredients that you’d use for either of the other two breads, but with a hearty amount of pecans to bring a sweet nuttiness to the bread that adds the best flavor and crunch when you bite into it.

You've Been Making Banana Bread Wrong This Whole Time
The smell of freshly baked banana bread in your kitchen can send joy throughout your entire household and can get everyone running towards the kitchen. There’s something about its smell and the thought of tasting a freshly baked, moist slice that is so heavenly.
When it comes to baking banana bread, it’s not all about your overripe bananas and how you mix them with eggs, butter, and milk that sets it apart. Seasoned hands know when it’s time to stop mixing, how to heat the oven, and when the banana bread is ready.
Of course, even seasoned bakers can make mistakes. To sharpen your banana bread-making skills, here are common mistakes you should avoid.

Makes one 9-x-5-inch (2L) loaf
Ingredients
1 ½ -¾ cups (375-400 g) mashed ripe bananas (3-4 bananas)
6 Tbsp (90 g) unsalted butter, melted
½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar, plus extra for sprinkling
½ cup (100 g) packed light brown sugar
1 large egg, at room temperature
1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla extract
1 ½ cups (225 g) all-purpose flour
1 tsp (5 g) baking soda
¼ tsp (.75 g) salt
1 cup (250 mL) chocolate chips or toasted walnut pieces (optional)
Directions
1. Preheat the oven to 325 F (160 C) and grease a 9-x-5-inch (2L) loaf pan.
2. Whisk the banana, melted butter, granulated and brown sugar together until well-blended. Whisk in the egg and vanilla.
3. In a separate bowl, sift the flour, baking soda and salt. Add this to the banana mixture and stir just until blended. Stir in the chocolate chips or walnut pieces (if using). Scrape the batter into the prepared loaf tin and sprinkle the top with a little sugar. Bake for about 75 minutes, until a tester inserted in the centre of the cake comes out clean. Cool the cake for 20 minutes in the tin, then turn it out to cool completely on a cooling rack.
The banana bread will keep, well-wrapped for up to 3 days.
