EXPLORING WHIDBEY ISLAND ???? Food & Nature Adventures in the PNW
Today we go on a day trip to the islands! We explore Whidbey Island and drive through others. I filmed at Whidbey before, but we’re checking out new spots this time. We savor pastries at a local bakery located right next to a coffee roaster! We also soak in the blossoms at Meerkerk Gardens and stroll through a forest.
Then for lunch, we try a restaurant that feels like it’s in the middle of nowhere. Unexpectedly really yummy food! Across the street is Fort Casey State Park, where we walk through abandoned forts. We wrap up the day with ice cream at a farm and drive through Deception Pass State Park. Watch the video for the full island tour!

Decadent and EASY Bread Pudding Recipe
This amazing bread pudding recipe is perfectly sweet with a wonderfully soft texture inside, a crisp top, and a delicious traditional pudding sauce. Bread pudding is basically a giant upgraded french toast casserole. Super-quick to whip up and of course it's a great use for stale bread, but just because it's easy as can be doesn't mean it's not amazingly delicious! I used brioche instead of plain white bread then whipped up my favorite brandy sauce, which I poured liberally on top.

INGREDIENTS
Crust
¼ cup rye flour or all-purpose flour, 38g
1 Tbsp. granulated sugar, 13g
¾ tsp. kosher salt
1½ cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting, 215g
¾ cup (1½ sticks) chilled unsalted butter, cut into pieces, 170g
1 large egg white, beaten to blend
Filling and Assembly
3 large eggs
1 large egg yolk
1 15-oz. can Libby’s 100% Pure Pumpkin, 425g
¾ cup heavy cream, 170mL
¼ cup granulated sugar, 52g
2 Tbsp. rye whiskey
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground ginger
¼ tsp. freshly grated nutmeg
¼ tsp. ground cardamom
Small pinch of ground cloves
6 Tbsp. light brown sugar, 71g
2 Tbsp. unsalted butter, melted, 28g
½ tsp. Diamond Crystal Salt
1½ cups whole pecans, 160g
2 Tbsp. light brown sugar, 24g
¾ tsp. Diamond Crystal Salt
1 Tbsp. pure maple syrup
1 Tbsp. unsalted butter, melted, 14g

Zingerman's Bakehouse Cookbook Release | Ann Arbor District Library
Amy Emberling and Frank Carollo, Managing Partners of Zingerman’s Bakehouse, introduced Zingerman's Bakehouse cookbook at AADL on Sunday, January 21. Their first-ever cookbook features all the recipes of the Bakehouse’s most popular items, as well as recipes that are unique to Michigan, along with Frank and Amy’s personal favorites.
They’ve also added essays and brief stories for context, to give readers a sense of how the Zingerman’s community works together to produce great food.
This event was held in partnership with the Culinary Historians of Ann Arbor (CHAA), an organization of scholars, cooks, food writers, nutritionists, collectors, students, and others interested in the study of culinary history and gastronomy. Their mission is to promote the study of culinary history through regular programs open to members and guests, through the quarterly newsletter Repast, and through exchanges of information with other such organizations.
