Mulled Cider Recipe With Warming Spices
You can find the full recipe and printable PDF here:
Mulled wines and ciders have been around since ancient times. Mulling is simply infusing spices, usually through heat, into wine, beer, or cider. In ancient Greece, mulling herbs in wine was a potent medicine-making method, but today mulled ciders and wines are primarily festive drinks that are often imbibed during the winter holidays. We say it’s time to combine old-school wellness-supporting herbs with new-school festive mulled ciders!
This comforting, delicious, healthful mulled cider recipe includes traditional warming spices such as cinnamon, allspice, and cloves with the botanical boost of immune-supporting elderberries and astragalus. Salud!

Holiday Spiced Cider
how to make Holiday Spiced Cider
RECIPE:
One orange
2 tsp of whole cloves
One apple
1 tsp of whole allspice
4 cinnamon sticks
1 gallon of apple cider
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1 tsp of nutmeg
Whiskey or rum (optional)
Pierce orange with cloves. Pierce apple with allspice. (If you have a tea infuser, tea bag or cheese cloth, you can use that to keep the spices under control).
Put the orange, apple, cinnamon sticks, apple cider, brown sugar and nutmeg into your slow cooker. Turn on high for 2 hours, then keep warm on low until you’re ready to drink.
Drink as is or with a shot (or two) of whiskey, rum, etc. Happy Holidays!

Vintage Spiced Cider Recipe | Cozy Winter Drinks
This vintage recipe is from the 1932 edition of the Five Roses Flour Canadian Cookbook 'A Guide to Good Cooking'. Make an adult version by adding in a bit of rum! Full recipe below.
SPICED APPLE CIDER
1 quart sweet apple cider
8 whole cloves
8 whole allspice
1 cinnamon stick
¼ cup brown sugar
Few grains of salt
Put cider into saucepan, add spices, salt and sugar; cover and heat very slowly to boiling point. Heat should be so low that it takes cider about ½ hour to come to a boil. Remove from heat, strain and serve hot.
Fruit beverages are wholesome and particularly refreshing during warm weather. If you keep on hand a bottle of two of home-made fruit syrup and a box of Five Roses Ice-Box Cookies or Drop Cakes, you will be ready to refresh your hot and tired family, your friends who may drop in tired and dusty from motoring, or the children’s friends who may clamour into the kitchen for “something cold to drink”.
The use of simple sugar syrup for sweetening fruit beverages will be found a distinct saving in time as it blends better and more quickly with the other ingredients.
