This is an ode to the original satay, complete with an authentic recipe for Thai peanut sauce, of course (no peanut butter!). It's a recipe perfect for summer grilling and for a crowd, it's also gluten free!

Sri Lankan beef Satay/Rendang made by grand ma.
Sri lankan Malays also known as Melayu Sri Lanka is a very small community that makes up to about 0.20% of Srilankans in total. however the origins of this community dates all the way back to the 13th century. From the sarong to the batik was introduced to Sri lanka by this community. When it comes to food, many dishes are adopted by the majority in Srilanka as their own.
The Lankan Malayu community has adopted in to ceylon style of cooking with all the beautiful spices. so the curries that we make are unlike what you will get in Malaysia or Indonesia.
This beef Satay can be char-coaled grilled after cooking too. This curry is absolutely delicious and pairs up with almost anything.
hope you enjoy watching and learning to make a traditional Sri lankan Malayu Satay curry.

You will find that this dish is best served with something such as rice. You can try alternatives such as egg noodles, mashed potatoes or even polenta. It does go great with quite a range of delicious sides.
The sauce in this dish is pretty easy so don’t stress too much about making a mistake. It combines a lot of the delicious ingredients found in a good satay sauce. The result is a flavor-packed sauce that will have you going back for seconds.
You’re able to quickly double this recipe if you're feeding quite a few people. I recommend doubling all the ingredients, so you end up with the right amount of sauce to beef.
You shouldn’t need to thicken the sauce but if you find that it is a bit runny then merely mix cornstarch and water then pour into the sauce. About 1 Tbsp. of this should be more than enough to thicken the sauce up.
There are quite a few ingredients in this recipe. If you need a proper list, then you can find all the ingredients right below. It will come in handy if you need to go shopping.
• 500g (17.5 oz.) rump steak (beef) thinly sliced
• 2 tsp. peanut oil
• 1 onion, sliced
• 1 red bell pepper, thick slices
• 1 tsp. garlic, crushed
• 1 tsp. ginger, crushed
• 1 tsp. red chili flakes
• 2 tsp. brown sugar
• 1 Tbsp. soy sauce
• 3 Tbsp. peanut butter
• ½ cup coconut milk
• ½ cup beef stock
Spice isn’t for everyone, so you can quickly leave the red chili flakes out if you’re not keen on them. It is also perfect if you need to make it kid-friendly.
I brown the beef in the video, but you can quickly skip past this if you’re running low on time.
I hope that this video has been able to show you all the steps to making a delicious slow cooker satay beef. If you have any thoughts, tips or anything else, then please don’t hesitate to leave a comment below or over at slowcookingperfected.com
