How To make Apple Date Scones
1/3 c Butter or margarine; firm
1 1/2 c All-purpose flour
2 tb Granulated sugar
2 ts Baking powder
1/2 ts Ground cinnamon
1/4 ts Salt
1/2 c Rolled oats
--old fashioned or quick-coo 1/2 c Apple; unpeeled, chopped
--about 1 small apple 1/4 c Chopped dates
1 Egg
1/3 c Half and half
Recipe by: Betty Crocker's Homemade Quick Breads Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cut the margarine into the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon and salt with a pastry blender in a large bowl until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in the oats, apple and dates. Stir in the egg and just enough half and half so that the dough leaves the side of the bowl and forms a ball. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface; gently roll in flour to coat. Knead lightly 10 times. Pat or roll into an 8-inch circle on an ungreased cookie sheet. Cut into 8 wedges, but do not separate. Brush with half and half and sprinkle with sugar, if desired. Bake for 16 to 18 minutes, or until golden brown. Immediately remove from the cookie sheet; carefully separate the wedges. Serve warm. Penny Halsey (ATBN65B). -----

Crumbly, rustic, simple fruit scones served with a dollop of clotted cream and strawberry jam. So wonderfully British, so delicious, the taste of Summer! This is a paid ad.
NB. The edit gremlins are back and somewhere along the lines the 2 eggs that should have been added with the milk are missing!! Or you can add 150ml of milk if you don't want to add eggs. Check out full recipe here.
Top tip - make an extra big batch and freeze the cut out dough. Then whenever you’re feeling peckish pop in the oven and cook until golden and warm.

Apple-Date Betty | Everyday Food with Sarah Carey
Today I'm going to show you a dessert that's as American as apple betty. (I know what you're thinking: Doesn't she mean pie? I don't!) Brown betty desserts have been around since colonial times, with good reason. Betties are so much easier to make than pie. No finicky crust. No rolling. Instead, buttery toasted bread stands in, but you still get that fabulous spiced-apple flavor that you would from a pie. A win-win, right?
Sarah's Tip of the Day:
In the video, I'll show you how to assemble the dessert and finish it off with a decadent addition before serving. Let me know what you think
