I'm not big on using many appliances besides a blender when I'm making dinners, but this slow cooker vegan apple chili has convinced me to use slow cookers more. Plus, if you've never put apples in your chili, you don't know what you're missing out on!

Directions:
*2 to 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
*1 pound ground turkey
*1 pound ground Italian sausage (mild or hot)
*2 (1.25oz) packages of chili seasoning mix (comes in reg, mild ,hot)
*2 tablespoons unsweetend cocoa powder (optional)
*1 chopped onion
*1 chopped green bell pepper
*1 chopped red bell pepper
*2 tablespoons minced garlic
*4oz can diced green chiles (optional)
*1 (28oz) can diced tomatoes undrained
*1 (15oz) can light kidney beans drained
*1 (15oz) can pinto beans drained
*3 (8oz) cans of tomato sauce
*2 1/2 cups beef broth
* seasonings to taste I used (lawry's seasoning salt, tony chacheres original creole seasoning, cajun seasoning, roasted garlic and herb seasoning, and cayenne pepper
*1/4 cup masa harina corn tortilla mix (as needed)
-in a stockpot heat up some extra virgin olive oil and brown your meat of choice crumble and cook until done then drain
-add chili seasoning, cocoa powder, onions, bell peppers,minced garlic, chilies, diced tomato, tomato sauce, beans, and broth
-simmer for 1 1/2 hrs to 2 hrs (every 30 minutes you can give it a stir)
-then season to taste
-if you want a thicker chili add in the masa harina and bring to a simmer boil for about 3 minutes until thickends (definitely recommend)
(if you like top with shredded cheese, red onions, and sour cream and serve with crackers or cornbread)
