I made a Creme de Menthe! Homemade Mint Liqueur
I made a Creme de Menthe!
I made a Creme de Menthe and then used it in a Grasshopper cocktail. The Liqueur came our decent but I do think it could be better. It's lacking a certain something, so if any of you's have a better recipe then let me know, I'm all ears!
The Grasshopper isn't my favourite cocktail by any means, but it is the cocktail that comes to mind first when thinking about a Creme de Menthe. The base idea of it sounds great, chocolate and mint, who wouldn't like that right? So I think a Grasshopper Riff is necessary for me to try and make this a cocktail more suited to me.

How to Make Crème de Menthe - an Easy Homemade Mint Liqueur with Vodka
Vodka, Mint and Simple Syrup combine to make this French liqueur that dates back to the 1800's. Sweet, light and delicious, it's a liqueur that caters to every palate and it couldn't be easier to make.
The difference between this one and the neon green bottle you see in the store is food dye. This one retains its natural color and is all the better for it. The yellowish color comes from the unbleached sugar used in the Simple Syrup. If you use bleached sugar, the liqueur will be clear, which is referred to as White Crème de Menthe.
Originally this drink was designed as a digestif. Like a lot of alcoholic drinks, it started off as medicine. The liqueur's inventor, 19th century French pharmacist, Emile Giffard, made it as a tonic to settle one's stomach. It eventually made its way into homes and bars for recreational use.
When making a batch at home, feel free to use a mid to low-range vodka, the addition of mint and sugar is enough to overpower the taste of the neutral base spirit. It's good enough to sip on its own and it's a key component of the classic cocktail, the Stinger. Santé.
Recipe: 1 cup Sugar 1 cup Water 1 cup Mint 1.5 cups Vodka
Yield: 3 cups (700 ml)
Make Simple Syrup ( steep mint in the syrup overnight (approx. 7 hours). Strain out Mint Leaves. Add Vodka. Strain again with fine strainer into bottle. Seal and store in the refrigerator. Serve up in a chilled Nick & Nora glass.
