The BEST Simple Mulled (Hard) Cider Recipe - A Homemade English Christmas
Mulled drinks are so popular at Christmas time here in England. Mulled cider in particular is a staple festive drink in the West Country, because of its traditions of cider production. Remember that cider over here is a term for fermented apple juice, and it almost always alcoholic (or hard cider, as we would call it over in the States).
Do make sure you try this recipe with the bread and butter panettone from earlier this week. Check out the video if you missed it here:
Recipe: * 1.5 litres of dry cider * 7 tbsp spiced rum (or spirit of your choice) * 400ml apple juice * 75g dark brown sugar * zest 1 orange, pared into strips * 4 whole cloves * 2 cinnamon sticks, broken in half
Method: 1. Pour the cider, spirit, apple juice and sugar into a large saucepan, and gently heat to mull. 2. Add the orange zest and spices, bring to a simmer, then turn down and keep on a low heat for 20-30 mins. Ladle into glass mugs to serve.
