Adrienne Floreen makes a 1956 MSG carrot recipe and everyone loves it. Best carrots ever? (2023)
It is called the Carrot Specialty in the 1956 cookbook and I did not plan to make it or film this video. Story below. This video was filmed on July 12th, 2023, at 6:34 p.m.
I did not plan to make this video or this dish. My boyfriend arrived home with a whole chicken, a carrot and some other vegetables, and a bag of rice and asked me to cook dinner. I usually cook all of our dinners from scratch so a bag of a meat, a few veggies, and a grain is a common thing for him to bring home. However, I am mildly allergic to RAW carrots, so I always cook them very well. So I started to cook the carrot and it was awful, the blandest carrot ever, in a separate pot, and I decided not to add it to the chicken soup but just for fun to make this recipe for carrots with parsley from my mostly organic (because we get some re-used dirt I cannot guarantee that someone else didn't put something un organic and the neighbors sometimes spray stuff) garden, MSG, and chervil. Then I asked everyone I knew if they had chervil and they said what's that or what did you just say. When the carrot and parsley and MSG mixture were cooked (using just one carrot and not the 8 recommended in 1956, with me pinching the MSG and tasting it periodically because I have no idea what size a standard carrot was in 1956) I ended up with what tasted like the sweetest carrots in the world, almost too sweet, so I added a little bit of salt and some Asian fish sauce and asked everyone to try my Carrot Specialty from 1965. Suddenly before I could grab one of my phones and film they were fighting over it, proclaiming it the best carrots I ever cooked, and calling me a master chef. I was surprised by this, I have cooked a lot of food including Chinese food with MSG with numerous vegetables so when everyone proclaimed these carrots I made for fun that I intended to eat myself and let everyone taste a bite of to be like the world's best food or something it surprised me. If you are not allergic to carrots or parsley or other plants in the carrot-parsley family such as chervil try this, and tell me if you also think it's the best carrots ever. And then asking me why there were not carrots in the chicken soup when I served it later, because the one awful carrot was used to make the recipe because I thought it would make the soup taste awful. I took this short video clip because they declared me a master carrot chef and said I should film it for YouTube and give cooking lessons. I guess that's why the Culinary Arts Institute put it in their cookbooks for 1956 desperate housewives that needed simple recipes to follow. On a side note, I have found some of these cook books for sale online and some are cheap and others are not; one of the ones I called an MSG cookbook is currently (on July 13th, 2023) on sale for $46 dollars and another one is on sale for $6 online. Apparently many people want these simple and weird recipes. Since everyone loved it so much I think I will next make some of the weird jello molds (with kosher gelatin) from this weird old cook book. There is one with fruit that says the women would be served it as a main dish for lunch and the men would prefer it as a desert and one that is a gelatinized cherry and roquefort cheese mixture. This is why I find it so bizarre that someone gave these cook books away at the free organic vegetable stand in Arcata, California, famous for it's vegan food. There are not a lot of people here especially people my age who would cook this stuff. Most of my vegan friends who put stuff like Braggs Aminos which has natural MSG on their food would be freaked out if I offered them a bite of this. Whoever left the books, thanks, I will have fun with them.

TOP 10 ACCIDENTALLY INVENTED FOOD ITEMS
Subscribe so you won't miss any future upload:
You may not realize it, but some of the world's most popular food and drinks were created entirely by accident.
Anyone who makes a living out of inventing things will tell you that it's a messy and challenging process. It's uncommon for someone to have an idea for something, develop it flawlessly on the first try, and bring it to market precisely as they imagined. There's a lot of trial and error, and sometimes one of those trials or errors leads to a product that's radically different from what was intended but also significantly superior.
In this video, we'll be checking out the top 10 food items that were invented accidentally. But first, subscribe to our channel and click the notification bell to get notified whenever a new video is uploaded.

15 Weird Foods That Were Eaten During the Great Depression
15 Weird Foods That Were Eaten During the Great Depression.
Imagine this – you’re alive at a time when diseases are ravaging the world, and the economy as you know it has crumbled. You’re forced to eat smaller food portions - when you can find something. To add salt to injury, you cannot fix a proper meal since you cannot afford the staple ingredients and now have to figure out a new recipe using whatever you have on the kitchen shelves. With this scenario in mind, what do you think would be the weirdest food combination you could ever try? What's the worst food you can stand? As you imagine the unimaginable, allow us to paint a picture of what life was like then.
1. Carrot Casserole and Spaghetti
Casseroles were one of the most popular foods from the Great Depression, but not in the way you’re thinking – imagine having carrots in place of meat in your luxury and then serving it with more carrots!
2. Vinegar Cobbler
A peach cobbler would have been the perfect dessert, but when the fruit is unavailable to your home, and the price tag is too high, the next best thing becomes the vinegar cobbler.
3. MullIigan Stew
Mulligan stew is the term used to refer to the stews made by people experiencing homelessness during the Great Depression.
4. Meatless Meatloaf
By the time the food shortages became prominent, meatloaves were already a staple in most homes.
5. Prune Pudding
While many of us cannot stomach prunes, prune pudding was such a big deal during the Great Depression.
6. Dandelion Salads
A salad may be considered an expensive luxury, especially when you think of the cost of fresh salads, but during the Great Depression, people survived on little food.
7. Mock Apple Pies (Without the Apples)
Apple pies are a staple for most homes today, and we cannot imagine holidays without some of that sweet pie, but during the Great Depression, the closest people got to the actual apple pie was a mock apple pie.
8. Creamed Chipped Beef
Better referred to as s**t on a shingle by the WWII veterans, creamed chipped beef was the other meal people had to enjoy during the Great Depression.
9. Peanut Butter-Stuffed Onions
This is the other interesting meal from The Great Depression Period. It was created by the Bureau of Home Economics and was known for its rather bizarre taste.
10. Hoover Stew
This is the other dynamic stew enjoyed during the Great Depression. Like the other stews made at the time, the Hoover Stew recipe changed based on the available ingredients.
11. Potato pancakes
How do you like your pancakes? Buttery soft, and fluffy? Well, pancakes from the Great Depression were nothing like what we enjoy today.
12. Corned Beef Salad
While it doesn’t sound as bad, it really wasn’t as great as you may imagine since this salad was only made of Jello and mayonnaise.
13. Egg Drop Soup
Though it sounds like the modern-day egg-drop soup served in Chinese restaurants, it was nothing like that. The egg-drop soup from the Great Depression was made with fried potatoes to which water was added; then, the mixture was boiled before scrambled eggs were added and stirred into the mixture.
14. Frozen Fruit Salad
This dish was, without a doubt, the Ultimate Great Depression holiday treat; the salad was made with canned fruit topped with whipped cream, flour, eggs, and a host of other things like nuts, marshmallows, or anything else the family had at hand.
15. Popcorn and Milk
Last on our list is popcorn and milk, a truly strange combination since, as we all know, you need your popcorn crunchy.
