Linguine And Tuna Sauce Recipe - Great Depression Cooking - $1 Meal - Italian Food Pasta
My father grew up during the Great Depression and this is one of the recipes that his family used to eat. His parents were born in Naples, Italy and came to the United States in the early 1900s. He taught my mother how to make Italian food like his mother made. His father was a gardener and grew many fresh ingredients himself. People saved money by growing their own herbs and vegetables. This is a very cheap meal and serves 4 people for less than $4.00. The ingredients are a box of linguine, a can of tuna, an onion, some parsley, butter, olive oil, and garlic. You can substitute the butter and olive oil with any kind of oil or fat that you have, however, it will change the flavor slightly. We still enjoy eating this meal today.
