How To make Italian Style Beans and Pasta
1 cn Garbanzo beans
1 cn Great Northern Beans
1 cn Red kidney beans
1 Or 2 cans diced cooked
Tomatoes 2 lg Carrots
1 Or 2 large onions, chopped
2 To 6 cloves of chopped
Garlic 2 lg Carrots, cut in thin strips
2 Stalks celery, cut in
Chunks 3 To 4 heaping Tbsps of
Italian Seasoning 1/4 t Red pepper flakes
1/2 lb Pasta
Saute garlic and onion till soft. Add beans (entire can) and tomatoes and 3 ca ns of water. When hot, add Italian Seasoning. Bring to a boil, then
cook till sp ices are well-blended. Add pasta, carrots and celery and cook till pasta is ready - - about ten minutes. Carrots should be slightly crunchy. Adjust seasonings if desired. This makes a thick stew. If you like it wetter, use more water. I expect you could lower the fat by reducing the amount of beans. This is an adaptation of a recipe calling for sausage and other meat. This is a recipe for Pasta E Fagioli that Deana Martin, Dean Martin's daughter, shared on social media recently. It is a recipe that Dean Martin's mom used to make often and it was one of his favorite foods. Dean Martin was born in 1917, so he would have been a teenager during The Great Depression. People ate Pasta E Fagioli often during that time because it was very cheap to make and also very filling.

Italian Pasta Fagioli Recipe ( Pasta And Beans )
Pasta Fagioli, or Pasta and Beans, is a quick and easy, inexpensive, nutritious and delicious meal that the entire family will enjoy.Don’t let it’s simplicity fool you; this is an authentic Italian recipe and the taste is great. if you prefer a vegan version you can avoid putting the Guanciale or bacon, it will be equally delicious. INGREDIENTS FOR 4
500 gr dried beans ( 800 gr canned beans )
1 celery rib
1 carrot
Cherry tomatoes ( or 1 tablespoon of tomato paste )
100 gr guanciale or bacon
300 gr Pasta
rosemary
Extra virgin olive oil
salt and Black pepper
INSTRUCTION
Take 500 gr of dried beans ( you can use any kind of beans but the original recipe is with cannellini or borlotti ) and let them rest in water for 12 hours at least ( you can also use canned beans in that case skip this passage and the cooking of the beans )
After 12 hours drain the beans and put them in a pot wit ha celery rib, a carrot and some cherry tomatoes ( otherwise you can add 1 tablespoon of tomato paste )
Cover with water and let the beans cook for 2 hours or until they are ready
Now, dice 100 gr guanciale or bacon
chop a sprig of rosemary
in a large saucepan put 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil, the rosemary and the guanciale. brown well
Now let everything cool down and take a vegetable mill. Start by mashing the beans. If you like you can leave a couple of ladles of whole beans to one side.
add a couple of ladles of water and bring everything to the boil. Add salt
Add 300 gr of pasta ( any type will be fine even if I personally prefer short pasta ) and cook it until it is ready (check the cooking times on the package and do not overcook it).
Serve the Pasta and Fagioli with a light sprinkling of black pepper
