Frijoles a la Charra (AKA Charro Beans) in a crockpot
Best Frijoles a la Charra! Better than a restaurant's charro beans! I've been told a lot from people who have tried my beans and they won't go back to any restaurant's version. This is my favorite dish. I made modifications over the years and this is the best recipe I've made. If you have the patience you can make this in a crockpot it comes out way better. You can also make this on the stove if you don't have the time. Although, it takes 2-3 hours on the stove.
Recipe:
6 cups of water
6 cups of chicken broth (optional, if you don't have chicken broth then use 12 cups of water)
1lb of pinto beans: rinse
2tsp of ground black pepper
2tsp of onion powder
4tsp of cumin
(optional: 2tsp of garlic powder)
1lb of bacon; cooked anyway you want it.
12oz to 1lb of smoked sausage; lightly browned and cut into bite size pieces
1/2 large white onion
3 cloves of garlic
2 jalapenos (optional, if you don't like it spicy you can omit/reduce this)
4 roma tomatoes
1 bundle of cilantro (optional, if you don't like cilantro you can omit this)
This takes 6-8 hours to cook.

From Canned Beans To Charro Beans | No one Will Know The Difference ❤
CHARRO BEANS is one dish I prepare often, they are very popular here in South Texas, we also love to barbecue and have family gatherings and Charro Beans are a must... Charro Beans from a can started when I was in a rush to come up with a side dish and I didn't have time to cook a fresh pot of beans, so I used canned and now it's the way to go for me especially if I'm in a rush. It takes a few minutes and a few ingredients to prepare these and no one will know the difference.
INGREDIENTS----------------
4 16oz Cans Pinto Beans (I used Bush's)
5 slices thin cut bacon (chopped)
1/3 med onion (chopped)
1 large Roma tomato (diced)
1 finely minced garlic clove
1 jalapeño (diced small) (optional)
Small bunch cilantro (chopped)
1 1/2 Tbsp Chicken bouillon tomato flavored (Knorr)
2 C. water
