500 g Mussels
125 g Ouzo
500 g Oil
100 g Flour
1/2 ts Salt
3 tb Grated parmesan
1 c Beer
2 Eggs
50 g Yogurt
1/2 ts Baking soda
We clean the mussels well and put them in a baking dish. We sprinkle the ouzo over the top and leave them covered for one hour. We dip them in the batter. We take them, one by one, separately with a spoon, and we fry them in hot oil. BATTER: We beat the beer with the flour, add the salt, the parmesan, the eggs, the yogurt and the soda. Fried Mussels | Goan Xinnaneo | Kravings
Fried Mussels are also called Xinaneao in Goa and this simple recipe is pretty much a staple in any household. The Mussels from Goa, Mumbai or even out of the Arabian Ocean are bigger. Here in Canada a good source for Mussels are from PEI. This is rope grown for consumption and is harvested every 18 – 24 months. This ensures a cleaner product and there is less grit to worry about.
Here are the ingredients and steps to make this recipe!
1.31 kg (3lbs) Mussels (shell on)
1 tsp Ginger & Garlic paste
½ tsp Chilli powder
½ tsp Turmeric powder
Salt to taste
½ - 1 cup Semolina
Marinate the cleaned mussels in ginger & garlic paste, chilli and turmeric powder and salt, dip in semolina and deep fry

Minced Onion 1.5 tbsp
Minced Garlic 1.5 tbsp
Minced Chili (optional)
Black bean paste 1 tbsp
Hot Broad Bean paste 1.5 tbsp
Salt to taste 0.5 tsp
Sugar 1 tbsp
Rice Wine 1.5 tbsp
