Easy Crock pot Spaghetti Sauce
This delicious spaghetti sauce is for busy people on the go. I always make extra to freeze and use in other dishes later. Your whole family will love this easy to make recipe. This has been my go to spaghetti sauce recipe for as long as I can remember. You can make it on the stove top at the end of the day too but the longer it simmers the better it is.
Ingredients:
5 - 15 oz cans tomato sauce
1/2 - 3/4 cups of water
2 lb. ground beef ( it's best with 1 lb ground Italian sausage & 1 lb ground beef)
4 pods garlic (minced or chopped)
1- 1 1/2 Tablespoons Italian seasoning
1 bay leaf (remove after cooked)
1 teaspooon thyme
1 Tablespoon basil (or 1/4 cup fresh)
1 teaspoon or to taste pepper flakes (red or spicy pepper) (optional)
1 teaspoon oregano
4 oz mushrooms (diced)
1/2 of a bell pepper - any color (diced)
1/2 yellow sweet onion ( diced)
olive oil
Directions:
Put tomato sauce, water & seasonings in your crock pot and turn on to simmer (4 to 8 hours is good ) Put 1 Tablespoon of olive oil in a pan & add the veggies and garlic to saute. (pour all contents including oil into the crock pot when onions are soft) Fry your beef and italian sausage (fry all together works) Season your meat with salt, pepper. When browned add to your crock pot. I finish off by swirling in a little olive oil into the sauce. Put a lid on it and your done. All that's left is making your spaghetti and whatever sides you want to add. This can be put together the night before (store in the fridge) and put in your pot in the morning before you leave.
I make other pasta dishes including lasagna with the left over sauce. You can freeze the extra meals or just freeze the sauce for another time. It's good for a quick meal another day.
It's so easy, it will become one of your favorites too. If you are a vegetarian, omit the meat.
