2 c (12 ounces) milk chocolate ;chips 1 T Shortening 1/2 c Raisins 1/2 c Chopped slivered almonds In a double boiler over simmering water, melt the chocolate chips and shortening, stirring until smooth. Remove from the heat; stir in raisins and almonds. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto waxed paper. Chill until ready to serve. From "Taste of Home" magazine, Collector's Edition. No bake cookies are a healthy alternative when you have a sweet tooth. They are easy to make and you don't have to turn on your oven and heat up your house in the summer months. They'll satisfy your chocolate cravings without blowing your diet.They are also called Preacher Cookies. Not sure why - maybe because they're easy enough to make while he's visiting!

Having lived off my food storage at various times in my life, there are some things I ensured we always kept on the shelves or in buckets - ingredients for treats. Stress can be a buzz kill! And whether adults or children, sometimes you just need a little comfort food. Cow Pies was not just a favorite of mine, but also my kids growing up. Sharing our version which was a mishmash of a few recipes I ended up combining together to have all the yummy things we enjoyed!!!

Desperate Dan Cow Pie
How to make Desperate Dan Cow pie for hungry homesteaders. Just the job to warm you up and give you the phenomenal strength of Desperate Dan.
For the Filling 1 large Onion medium diced 3 medium Carrots quartered lengthways and diced 2 small Carrots peeled and cooked whole for 12 minutes, then refreshed 100g chopped Celeriac Optional 450g diced Stewing Steak ( Skirt would also be fine, or you could use a more expensive cut which needs less cooking) 1x33cl bottle of Beer, Ale is preferable 500 ml of water 2tbs Tomato Paste a few shakes of Worcester Sauce a few shakes of Maggie Seasoning or 1 beef Stock cube Salt and Pepper to taste A little gravy granules, Gravy Powder or Cornflour to thicken Only half the mix is needed for 1 pie, we usually eat the other half as stew and dumplings another night.
For the Pastry 500g Plain Flour 250g Butter, Margarine or Lard approx. 100ml of water 1 beaten Egg to glaze
Oven 250*C for 25 min or until golden brown.
