1 tbsp maple syrup, honey or agave
1 tbsp unsweetened applesauce
1 egg or flax egg
Filling:
3/4 cup dates (100g)

1 tbsp honey
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

NUTRITIONAL INFO (per roll - with glaze):
174 calories, fat 3.1g, carb 32.2g, protein 4.9g
Preparation:
In a bowl, mix together the whole wheat flour, ground oats and salt. Set aside.
In lukewarm milk, add 1 packet of dry instant yeast, mix it up and add to the flour mixture.
Stir with the spoon, then add the sweetener, applesauce and whisked egg.
Knead the dough using a stand mixer or with your hand, do not over work it (for about 5 minutes).
Transfer the dough into a bowl, cover and let rise for 1 hour at room temperature.
While the dough is rising make the filling. Place the dates into a jar, cover with hot water and soak for 30 minutes. Add the cinnamon and blend into a smooth paste.
The dough should be double in size. Turn it out onto a floured or greased working surface, roll it out into a large rectangle.
Spread the filling over the dough and roll it out.
Cut into 12 equal slices using a sharp knife or dental floss.
Layer the individual rolls into a greased baking pan and let it proof for another 45 minutes.
Brush with the milk and bake for 20-25 minutes at 350F (180C), or until it just starts to brown.
While warm drizzle with topping.
Enjoy!

Ingredients:-
For the dough:-
250 gms. Refined Flour (Maida)
1¼ tsp. Instant Dry Yeast
30 gms. Caster Sugar
60 ml. Lukewarm Milk
80-100 ml. Lukewarm Water
50 gms. Melted Butter
1¼ tsp. Vanilla Extract
For the filling:-
150gms. Brown Sugar
1tbsp. Cinnamon Powder
25 gms. Cold Butter
Method:-
The Dough:-
In a bowl take refined flour and make a small well in it. Add instant dry yeast, caster sugar and little bit of lukewarm milk to it. Mix till bubbles are formed and then add the remaining milk. Mix well and add lukewarm water to it. Start kneading a dough of the mixture and add melted butter and vanilla extract to it. Knead the dough till it's no longer sticky and completely smooth. Transfer the dough to an oil-greased bowl. Covering with a damp kitchen towel keep aside for an hour.
The Filling:-
In a bowl take brown sugar, cinnamon powder, cold butter and mix it all with fingertips till it resembles wet sand.
The Roll:-
Take the dough out and knead it for around 30 seconds and roll it out into a rectangle of 10'' x 10'' with a rolling pin. Spread the filling on the flattened dough making sure 1'' space is left at the ends. Apply some milk on the edges with fingertips and sprinkle some flour on the filling. Pick one end and roll the dough to form a log. Divide the log into 10-11 portions cutting with a knife. Place the cinnamon rolls inside an 8'' x 8'' square tin which is lined up with parchment paper making sure there is a distance of 1'' between each roll. Cover the tin with a damp kitchen towel leaving aside for an hour. After an hour, brush with milk and bake in a preheated oven at 200°C for 15-20 minutes checking after every 15 minutes.
Once the buns are out of the oven brush them with melted butter and serve hot!

*Please note that these are guesstimated amounts based on online converters. I do not use weight measurements so I cannot guarantee the accuracy of these amounts. As always, I recommend anyone that uses weights to buy a set of American measuring tools to use for American recipes since there are so many variables in converting a recipe. They will pay for themselves in just one mis-converted and ruined recipe in wasted ingredients.
Enjoy!
