How To make Christmas Ribbons
1 1/2 c Butter
1 c Sugar
1 tb Baking powder
1 Egg
2 ts Vanilla
1/2 ts Lemon or orange extract
3 1/2 c All-purpose flour
Red and green food coloring Beat butter in a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer on medium speed for 30 seconds. Add sugar and baking powder and beat well. Add egg, vanilla, and lemon or orange extract. Beat till well combined. Beat in as much flour as you can. Stir in any remaining flour with a wooden spoon. Divide dough into three portions. Tint one portion pink with a few drops of red food coloring and one portion light green with a few drops of green food coloring. Leave the remaining portion plain. Do not chill dough. Pack dough into a cookie press, placing pink dough on one side, green on the other, and the plain in the center. Using the ribbon plate, force dough through press onto ungreased cookie sheets. Cut into 2-to 3-inch lengths. Bake in a 375~F oven for 6 to 8 minutes or til edges of cookies are firm but not brown. Remove cookies and cool on wire racks. Makes about 60. Ingredients:
12 tbsp butter, softened
2/3 cup sugar
1 egg
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup favorite jam
1 cup powdered sugar
1 tbsp milk or cream
Directions:
To a bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Add in the egg and vanilla extract, mix mix mix!
Add in the dry ingredients and mix until combined.
Lightly sprinkle your work surface with flour and turn out the dough. Shape the cookie dough into a circle and quarter it. Take a quarter and roll it out into a 12 inch long rope.
Place the rope on a parchment lined baking sheet. With a wooden spoon handle or using the back of a teaspoon, press it down into the cookie rope to create a well for the jam. Pinch off each end to keep the jam from spilling out of the cookie during the baking process.
Add a generous amount of jam into the well of each cookie. Into a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes depending on your oven. I took mine out right at 15 minutes.
Let the cookie rope cool for 5 minutes before attempting to slice. After 5 minutes, slice your cookies about an inch wide at a diagonal angle. Place on a cooling rack to finish cooling.
Make the Icing: Mix the powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Add the mixture to a sandwich baggie or a piping bag and drizzle it over each cookie. Enjoy!

At its most basic, cooking means applying heat to food. Whether the food is baked, fried, sautéed, boiled, or grilled, it's all cooking.
People still cook some foods over an open flame, in addition to using tools like microwaves toasters, and stovetops.
