Potato Bread Recipe filling makes a mouthwatering snack. This is a perfect snack with afternoon tea or served as an appetizer. Bread Potato Rolls are crunchy outside, spicy and soft inside.
My childhood memories are revived with these tasty rolls. These are bread ball / rolls stuffed with mashed potatoes, spices, herbs and then deep fried. It’s crunchy from outside and soft from within. Remember how me and my sis used to relish them in our lunch boxes and during tea-time at home.
These taste good with green chutney, sweet chutney and sauce. A word of caution these are not meant for calorie conscious people. As it consist cheese and is deep fried. To make it low fat you could avoid cheese and shallow fry them. However I love the way my mother makes and it was my luck she made this while I clicked the pictures.

Bread Potato Rolls are a very popular snack of India. Soaked bread slices are filled with spicy potato filling and then deep fried in oil. Potato filling is same as that in samaras and you can add more vegetables like carrot, peas, capsicum according to your taste. These are really easy to make and can be prepared in advance for deep frying later. I made rolls 1 hour in advance kept them covered and deep fried them later.
It's a perfect appetizer for serving your guests with tea. You can pack it as a picnic snack also. My kids love to take these in their lunch boxes with ketchup. When I was in school one day teachers decided to have a picnic in school and asked the kids to get some snacks from their home. I took these bread rolls and they disappeared so fast that even I did not get a chance to eat them.
How to make Potato Bread Recipe
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 20-30 minutes
makes 10 Bread rolls
Ingredients:-
10 bread slices
4 medium sized boiled potatoes
1 tsp minced green chilies
1 tsp grated gingers
2 tbsp oil
½ tsp fennel seeds
½ tsp red chili powder
½ tsp gram masala
½ tsp amchoor( raw mango powder) or chaat masala
salt to taste
½ cup chopped nuts( cashew nut, raisins)
coriander leaves to garnish
For frying
Oil for deep frying
To make the filling
Chop the boiled potatoes. Heat the oil. Add fennel seeds. When they start to crackle add green chilies and ginger. Now add potatoes, nuts and all the spices. Let it cook for 2 minutes. Switch off the heat and add fresh coriander leaves. Cool the mixture before filling in the bread rolls.
To make Potato Bread Recipe -
Soak the bread slices in a bowl for 30 seconds. Squeeze out extra water by pressing slice in your palms. Put a spoon of potato mixture on the slice. Gently shape into a roll with your hands. Heat oil and deep fry the rolls on medium flame till golden brown.
