Very Southern Buttermilk Pie
One of the simplest pies to make, I suspect this pie had it's origins when ladies did not have refrigerators or ice boxes to keep their milk cold so lots of it probably clabbered. So they made pie using this milk.
Before electricity was available out in the country where my grandmother lived she keep milk and butter on a little platform that was lowered into the well. This kept the milk and butter at a constant 50 degrees. They were pretty clever back then.
Here's the recipe for the filling:
1 unbaked 9 pie crust
(my video for home made crust
1 1/2 cups of sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
4 large eggs
1/2 cup melted butter at room temperature
1 cup whole milk buttermilk
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
