Apple Crisp Recipe:
Servings: 10
Ingredients:
4 chayotes, peeled and sliced
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
1/4 cup plus 2 tbsp. sweetener, divided (I use this one:
3/4 cup Keto wheat flour
1/4 c. lightly packed brown sweetener OR use 1/4c white +1/4 tsp molasses
1/2 tsp. kosher salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, cold, cut into cubes
1 cup of chopped pecans
2 tea bags of apple spice (I use this one:
Vanilla ice cream, for serving
Directions:
Boil chayote with tea bags until slightly tender
Preheat oven to 350
Once the chayotes are done, toss in the cinnamon, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and 2 tablespoons of sweetener
Pour into skillet or prepared baking dish
Make crumble on top.
Mix the flour, sweetener , brown sweetener, salt, cold butter, and pecans with a fork
Sprinkle on top of chayotes
Bake for 35 to 45 h til bubbling and the top is golden!
Enjoy it with ice cream!

- 1/2 cup (106g) granulated white sugar
- 2 teaspoons (4g) ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon (1g) ground allspice

- 1 tbsp (9g) corn starch dissolved in 2 tablespoons (21g) water

- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (375g), plus extra for rolling
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, very cold, cut into 1/2 inch cubes

Nothing beats a homemade apple pie from scratch and this tutorial will take you through the whole process so you too can make the best apple pie. This recipe is a tradition at my house.
I make this apple pie every Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I will explain which apples I like to use which are the Newton Pippin apples but Granny Smith apples will work in a pinch.
I also talk about the tools you will need for pie making. One for sure to get is a pastry cloth. Now a days I won't make a pie crust without one. It just makes light work of pie crust making.
Here is what you need for the apple pie filling:
10 - 12 pippin apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
2 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
3/4 to 1 cup sugar, depending on how tart the apples are
1 1/2 to 2 tablespoons cornstarch
Place the sliced apples in a large pot. Mix the cinnamon, sugar, and cornstarch in a bowl. Pour over the apples and stir.
Cover the apples with a lid and cook on low for 20 to 25 minutes or until the apples cook down and become soft. When you cook the apple first like this, the result you will get is, there won't be that gap that most recipes give you, between the top crust and the apples.
You will also get more apples in your pie, which I think makes it even better!
While the apples are cooking, make the pie crust.
Pie Crust Ingredients:
2 1/4 cups white flour, sifted twice
2/3 cup shortening, chilled
1 tsp. salt
6 to 8 tablespoons of ice water

Crust Ingredients:
29 g Unflavored Isopure whey protein isolate (one packed scoop)
30 g Coconut Flour (1/4 Cup)
30 g Oat Fiber (Naturtonix is what I use) (1/4 Cup + 2 Tbs.)
1 tsp. Xanthan Gum
1 tsp. Gelatin
84 g Grated Butter (Frozen) (6 Tbs., 3 oz.)
6-8 Tbs. Ice Water
Pinch of salt (omit is using salted butter)
Filling Ingredients:
1 1/2 Lbs. Chayote Squash (about 3 Medium squash)
2 Tbs. Butter
3/4 Cup Water + more
1 Cup Allulose
1 tsp. Cinnamon
1 Tbs. Heavy Cream
1/2 tsp. Liquid stevia (can use caramel or vanilla flavored)
Crumb Topping:
72 g Golden Monkfruit Sweetener (can use classic)
30 g Unflavored whey protein isolate (about one packed scoop)
30 g Oat Fiber
1/2 tsp. Cinnamon

Cheddar Cheese Crust
2 ½ cups flour
1 teaspoon sugar
½ teaspoon sea salt
2 sticks cold butter, unsalted
4 ounces white cheddar, finely grated
½ cup ice water
Easy Apple Pie
2 Cheddar Cheese Crusts
2 (20 ounce) cans apple pie filling
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Combine 2 ½ cups flour, 1 teaspoon sugar, and ½ teaspoon sea salt in a large mixing bowl. Mix to combine.
Cut the 2 sticks of cold butter into cubes. I like to pop the cubes in the freezer for 30 minutes before this next step, but not required. Add the butter to the flour mixture. Cut butter into flour with a pastry knife (or 2 butter knives) until the mixture looks like coarse cornmeal. You can also do this by pulsing it with the dough blade in the bowl of a food processor.
Add in the 4 ounces of cheddar cheese and just mix until combined, careful not to overwork the dough.
Drizzle ¼ cup of the ½ cup of ice water into the flour mixture and mix to form a dough. Add 1 tablespoon at a time as more water is needed until dough is formed.
Careful not to over water. Dough should easily form into a ball but not be tacky or sticky.
Divide dough into 2 roughly equal portions, form into hockey puck-like discs, wrap individually, and place in the fridge for an hour.
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
Roll out one disc into a 12-inch round on a lightly floured surface. Transfer to a 9-inch pie dish by first folding the dough in half and then in half again. This allows you to pick up the dough without breaking it.
Transfer dough and unfold it over the pie plate. Center the dough with a plate but do not stretch the dough. Press dough into the bottom, crease, and side of the pie pan, careful to avoid creating any air pockets. Place the pie plate in the fridge.
Then unfold it the same way in the pie dish. Place the pie plate in the fridge.
Combine the 2 20-ounce cans of apple pie filling and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon in a mixing bowl. Mix to combine.
Roll out the other disc to be slightly smaller than the first one.
Transfer apple mixture to pie plate and place second crust on top, pressing edges together with bottom crust to seal. Tuck the crust edge under itself and crimp. Make air slits in the center of the pie.
Place pie on a baking sheet and cover the crust edges with foil or crust guards. Bake for 45 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and the pie filling appears to be bubbling through.
Remove from the oven and let cool before serving.
