How To make American Beauty
COLORING:
2 oz Food coloring, red
3 tb Cocoa, instant; Nestle's
BATTER:
1/2 c Shortening; Crisco
1 1/2 c Sugar, granulated
2 Eggs
1 c Buttermilk
2 1/4 c Flour, cake; sifted 3 times
1 ts Salt
1 ts Vanilla
1 tb Vinegar, white
1 ts Baking soda
ICING:
1/4 lb Butter, unsalted
7 tb Shortening; Crisco
1 c Sugar, granulated
1/2 ts Vanilla
3 tb Flour, cake
2/3 c Buttermilk; room temperature
Mix together the red food coloring and instant cocoa; set aside. Cream together the 1/2 cup of shortening, 1-1/2 cup sugar and eggs. Add colored paste and mix well. Add 1 cup buttermilk, 2-1/4 cup cake flour and salt. Mix well, add 1 teaspoon vanilla, vinegar and baking soda. Mix well again. Bake in 350F oven 30-35 minutes. For the icing, cream together butter, remaining shortening and vanilla. Mix very well with electric beater; add remaining flour, 1 tablespoon at a time while mixing. Add remaining buttermilk and mix well. Notes: This recipe was handed down from my mother-in-law and I have never seen the equal of it! For Christmas, add green food coloring to the icing for a real Christmas effect. The hand written recipe did not indicate pan size, type or quantity ... but works well as a layer cake or in a springform cake pan. If you make this cake, let me know how you like it. Making the “American Beauty” cocktail
This cocktail was inspired by the American Beauty Rose that was brought to the United States in 1875 by George Valentine Nash and it was the best selling Roses up until the 1920’s, today its symbolism is it’s the official flower of Washington D.C. , the song “American Beauty Rose” by Frank Sinatra, it was the motif for the popular Oscar winning 1999 movie classic “American Beauty” and it was also featured on the cover of a Grateful Dead album called “American Beauty” and it’s also the official flower of several fraternities and sororities.... I wish I could claim this drink as my own but unfortunately it still remains unclaimed, but of course I put my own touch on it and garnish it with real candied Rose petals that are absolutely delicious and tastes just like candy ???? cheers enjoy and follow me on Instagram for more ➡️ @boozey_bitch

American Beauty Berry Jelly
Ingredients
* ~6 cups beautyberries, washed and cleaned of stems and leaves
* 8 cups water
* 1 envelope Sure-Jell pectin
* 4 cups sugar

2. Put beautyberries in large saucepan (6qt) and cover with water
3. Heat to boiling
4. Boil for 20 mins, watch for boil over
5. Strain through food mill making sure to mash berries to get all the juice out. If you don’t have food milk just use strainer and 2 layers of cheesecloth, scooping out stuff as needed

7. Bring to a rolling boil again
8. Add 1 envelope of Sure-Jell, stir constantly to dissolve and return to rolling boil
9. Add 4 1/2 cups sugar, stir constantly to dissolve and boil for 1 minute - watch for boil over!!!
10. Remove from heat
11. Skim off foam with flat spatula
12. Pour jelly into sanitized jars using small ladle with funnel to headspace (~1/4)
13. Clean rims of jars carefully with wet rag
14. Use magnet to place lids and rings on jars, tighten by hand
15. If canning, and preserving for later use, Use grabbers to place jars in pot of boiling water
16. Lower rack and let jars boil to seal for 10 minutes. You will hear a popping noise when you pull them out of the water. This is how you will know if sealed.
17. Let jelly set for 12 hours
