5 lb Pumpkin; (5-7 pounds)
6 Eggs
2 c Whipping cream
1/2 c Brown sugar
1 tb Molasses
1/2 ts Freshly grated nutmeg
1 ts Cinnamon
1/4 ts Ginger
2 tb Butter
Recipe by: The Frugal Gourmet 'Cooks American' Cut the lid off the pumpkin just as you would for a jack-o-lantern. Remove the seeds. Mix the remaining ingredients together with the exceptions of the butter. Fill the pumpkin with this mixture and top with the butter. Cover with the pumpkin lid and place in a baking pan. Bake at 350F degrees for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until the mixture has set like a
custard. Serve from the pumpkin at your table, scraping some of the meat from the pumpkin with each serving. -----

Thanksgiving Pumpkin Pie - The ORIGINAL Recipe (Pie in a Pumpkin)
For the first American Thanksgiving, the pilgrims made pumpkin pie — only it didn't look anything like the pumpkin pie we eat today. The original, colonial recipe is surprisingly delicious — and gorgeous! You might never make a modern pumpkin pie again.

A fruit pie from 1808? Let's see how it works out! Especially considering how vague the original receipt is. Justine needs to use her prior knowledge for this one. Both the crust and the pie filling are inspired by 1808 recipes.

RECIPE for filling
1 Quart (1L) Whole Milk
2 Cups (450g) Pumpkin Puree
4 eggs
½ Cup (190g) Molasses
1 ½ teaspoons allspice
2 teaspoons ginger
Pie Dough
1. Blind bake the pie crust until fully cooked.
2. Mix all of the ingredients together until smooth then add to cooled pie crust. Bake at 350°F / 175°C for 75 - 80 minutes or until there is just a slight wobble in the middle of the pie.
3. Turn off oven but leave the pie in to cool with the door slightly ajar (you can use a wooden spoon to prop it open).
4. Let cool completely before slicing. This actually tastes even better the next day!
