Homemade King Cake Recipe
This delicious homemade king cake recipe is stuffed up with cinnamon and sugar and topped off with a cream cheese frosting for the perfect Mardi gras dessert. You will love how light, fluffy, and flavorful this cake is.
King cake is a Mardi Gras and New Orleans dessert staple. It got its name from the biblical story of the three kings bringing gifts to Jesus. In New Orleans tradition, you place a small plastic baby into the bottom of the cake after it’s done cooking, and whoever finds it must throw the next party. It’s a cyclical effect of keeping the party going no matter the season, but especially during Mardi gras.
It’s very similar to cinnamon rolls and can often be stuffed with different flavored cream cheeses, chocolates, and jellies. There are also three different colored icing on top which represent justice, power, and faith.

King Cake is Mardi Gras' Most Famous Dessert | Legendary Eats
During Mardi Gras, bakeries like Gambino's Bakery sell king cakes all across the city. Shops begin selling the pastry on January 6, or King's Day, and through the eve of Mardi Gras, which is Tuesday, February 25, 2020. The pastry is eaten in Catholic countries around the world as a way to celebrate the coming of the three kings, but in New Orleans, it marks the Carnival season and the city has become synonymous with the dessert. Each pastry is decorated with frosting and sprinkles in purple, green and gold, and a small plastic baby is baked into each cake as part of a New Orleans tradition that started many years ago. Tradition goes that whoever finds the baby has to bring the king cake for the next party.

The BEST King Cake You Can Make At Home | New Orleans Recipe
King Cake is a special treat that we have every year in New Orleans leading up to Mardi Gras. It is usually a cinnamon roll-style cake with a form of icing and sprinkles. Sometimes they are filled with cream cheese or jelly, but in this case I kept it simple as a base recipe. I like the Randazzo's style king cake with a brioche style bread and thick, spreadable icing. I think this is the best king cake I've ever had and I'm excited to share it with you!
